Number of shots[edit]

SUpposedly (from a news site, i cant remmeber which one) the police claimed that they only shot 2 times, but some witnesses claimed to have heard 4 shots or something.. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 99.237.153.162 (talkcontribs) 20:18, 16 November 2007

Murder[edit]

This man was murdered, just as the Brazillian was in the UK for being mistaken for a terrorist. Cops are usually ill educated to the degree of their weapons and what they can do, especially in this case. In fact modern policing is a joke, period. No doubt in this instance, as in many others, they will 'get away with murder' god bless them! Here in Australia they are no better.

Honestly, you would think a police force, service, more capable of dealing with situations better, they deserve life for this murder. Put a uniform on a man and watch him change......

Didnt some Yankee cops shoot a poor mentally disturbed guy 20 times recently..... Bloody cops...Power to kill without reprehension. I am ashamed to hear of this incident from the Mounted Police in Canada.. whoever did it should rot in hell..... —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 144.139.179.130 (talkcontribs) 13:02, 16 November 2007‎

Why?[edit]

I think that the man shouldn't have over reacted about the language barrier problem, but why is it needed to shoot twice when the man is already on the floor? —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 211.26.102.22 (talkcontribs) 13:23, 16 November 2007

Justice[edit]

Four people murdered another person over a misunderstanding, what else if there to say? I hope that justice finds these killers, but I doubt it will come from the RCMP. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 192.104.67.222 (talkcontribs) 20:31, 16 November 2007

"Less than lethal" lie needs to be debunked once and for all[edit]

When tasers were introduced, the line of bull pitched at every news outlet on the planet was, "These weapons are alternatives to lethal force, which will be used to save the lives of people against whom the police otherwise would have to use their firearms". In reality, tasers are being used:

  • As preventative measures, just in case somebody believed to be unruly might decide to get physical
  • As punishment for citizens who fail to quickly follow a lawful order
  • As "pain compliance" (i.e. torture) devices to move people around

The next time you see someone repeat that stale Big Lie about avoiding fatalities from lethal force, call them on it! 70.15.116.59 03:00, 17 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Canada = Brutality???[edit]

The brutality of the Canadian "police", in murdering an innocent man, portrays all Canadians as vicious thugs out to wield unauthorised power at a whim.

Shame Canada!

What has your beautiful country become. I visited ten years ago and was impressed by the friendliness and courtesy of the people.

However, over the last four years I have come across disturbing accounts of power gone mad with actions like Monsanto suing a farmer who had not planted their patented seeds but had found his crops infected by the wind-blown pollen from another farm.

Get a grip Canada. I choose not to believe it is the "average" person in Canada. I choose to believe it the people in positions of influence who are abusing their power. Still, when the people do not speak up they are complicit - accessories to the fact - accessories to continued murder and abuse.

You're on the road to becoming like the USA - a Fascist state that is totally out of control.

Actions of 4 RCMP constables should not decide Canadian reputation[edit]

First let me say that I am not defending or condemning the actions of the RCMP in this particular instance, I'll wait until the coroners report and all the other facts are in before forming a concrete opinion. It is really easy to point the finger after the fact and say 'that was unnecessary' or 'you're a murderer', but be rational people, this was an accident, a tragic and fatal mistake. I don't see any of you people strapping on bulletproof vests and directly confronting violent and unruly people on a daily basis. Also, let it be said that there have been far more deaths of RCMP constables in recent years specifically because the INDIVIDUALS involved hesitated to take the action to protect themselves, simply because they felt it was unnecessary. In the incident at YVR on October 14th, the man was frustrated, and acting violent, and I am absolutely certain that the RCMP didn't even consider the possibility that the Taser and resulting struggle would end in his death. Also, keep in mind that when the RCMP came into contact with the man and asked/gestured for him to stand against the wall, he stepped aside to a desk instead, and picked up a stapler. Sure, a stapler isn't a threatening weapon, but the action could most certainly be interpreted as threating behaviour or intention of threatening behaviour.

Second, put yourselves in all the individuals shoes. The RCMP, YVR security, public in the area, and the immigrants. If YOU traveled for the very first time to a foreign country with intentions on living there, without learning a single word of their native tongue, would you get so frustrated when stuck in the airport for several hours as to start throwing chairs and computers around the airport? What do you think some of the possible consequences could be? And when 4 policia came to intervene, would you struggle with them or take any action which could be interpreted as threatening, or would you act as calm as possible and simply try to follow their direction and commands? After they shocked you once with a Taser, would you continue to fight and struggle with them, or would you just kneel down and place your hands behind your back or on your head? And instead of simply condemning the RCMP perhaps you should be asking 'how does an immigrant get misplaced for 8+ hours in an International Airport without anyone directing him to the proper Customs Officer or POLISH interpreter?' Oh and let's also not forget 'why weren't their paramedics at YVR to immediately respond to the man after his heart stopped beating? And then the public, nobody around did anything to help, perhaps because they personally felt threatened. One woman went up to him when he was holding the computer and obviously intending on throwing it at the glass, and when she asked/gestured for him to put it down, he asked/gestured for her to move away from the glass, indicating that he wasn't listening to reason, he HAD become unruly.

Lastly, I have heard a number of comments such as 'shame on you Canada' or 'you are becoming a fascist-Americanized country'. Please people, don't judge our entire country based on the actions of 4 RCMP constables on 1 occasion, even if you still feel it was unnecessary. Keep in mind they are individuals who acted according to their interpretation of the situation. Next, I think our refusal for the invasion of Iraq is a clear enough message that we are not simply some American lackey. Also, it is inevitable that in the fear propagated world we currently live in post 9/11 led by a fascist terror-inducing leader, that their closest neighbor would be influenced into this irrational state of fear and paranoia first. Perhaps this is a sign that some of our RCMP are feeling overly and irrationally threatened, but who is to blame for that? So, let's wait to hear the coroner's report before deciding to condemn the RCMP constables involved. Should they determine that he asphyxiated due to the struggle with the RCMP, then perhaps they did get unnecessarily rough with him. Also, it is protocol that 2 electric shocks are the maximum, and from the video it would appear that statement is accurate, however of course that could be wrong. But wait until all the facts are in, and use some rationality when assessing this situation, also have some empathy for the RCMP constables involved and not simply the poor Polish immigrant who tragically died in the confrontation. They are there for our protection, and despite the fact that sometimes they make mistakes, and because of the responsibility they possess, those mistakes are often very serious.

Oh, and to that comment of Monsanto suing a Canadian farmer; Monsanto is an American Corporation! —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Jaynewland (talkcontribs) 19:24, 17 November 2007‎

Hands at sides?[edit]

I've seen it reported several places that Mr. Dziekanski was calm and had his hands at his sides when TASERed. However, I'm not certain this is true. Watching the video it was difficult for me to tell the exact moment that he was TASERed and what his hands were doing at the time (this is because of the glare from the glass wall he was standing behind and the fact that there was an object obstructing view of his body from the approximate waist level downwards) but it seemed to me that he had a black object in his right hand; perhaps this was the stapler that has been referred to in other media reports. In the video I also saw his arms moving about while he was holding this object; although I'm not sure if this movement was before or after the TASER discharge. If the police had been informed that they were dealing with an agitated man who had previously been throwing objects and they then saw him pick up a stapler they may have believed he was about to throw it at them and TASERed him for that reason. Whether using a TASER to prevent an object being thrown at you is justifiable or not is another question. I'm not sure what the RCMP training is on this question: i.e. when is it appropriate to use the TASER? Does the situation need to be life threatening or do you simply need to feel in danger of being assaulted? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.67.179.85 (talk) 21:13, 20 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Video of man tasered at Vancouver airport released[edit]

am shocked that people who pretend to be the "humanists" of the world can do such a thing!where has patience gone?have we all gone ballistic?what was so hard to get the man's passport, call his embassy and get an interpreter?surely, this was uncalled for and Cnadians should make sure justice is served if they don't want the name of their country soiled. I think that these RCMP poeple should of used the telephone translation service and they should of at least tried to comunicate with Mr. Dziekanski before he was tased. Also i think that a taser should be the last resort and they should be fined or at least hav thier tasers taken away for a certian period of time. I wonder how the 2010 Olympics will be effected by this and that they should make sure that they have either staff or the telephone that can translate to what the foriegn people are saying. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 209.121.148.173 (talk) 01:42, 7 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Comment[edit]

If 4 or 5 pigs can't arrest 1 person without disabling the person 1st, burger king is looking for patty flippers, you pigs will fit right in, since patties are already dead animals. Pitty on you.. he didn't need a taser, he needed a translator. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 205.250.171.218 (talkcontribs) 15:52, 25 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]
