Mount Merapi erupts

One of at least 129 active volcanoes in Indonesia, Mount Merapi is part of the Pacific Ring of Fire.

Kevin Anderson, correspondent for the BBC, reports Mount Merapi is erupting. Reporter Hans van den Broek in Java told the BBC that Mount Merapi is erupting, just about 40 km from where he is.
It has been rumbling and spewing ash for some time, but the BBC correspondent said that this is the real thing.
