Generic version[edit]

Would it be possible to have a generic version of this, that is not time/data sensitive? ShakespeareFan00 (talk) 22:18, 1 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

OR[edit]

Witnessed on BBC LIve at about 11:02 EST, and CNN not too long after. DragonFire1024 (Talk to the Dragon) 04:08, 5 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

BBC 306. DragonFire1024 (Talk to the Dragon) 04:18, 5 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]
McCain quotes from live press conference, speech. DragonFire1024 (Talk to the Dragon) 04:20, 5 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

There seems to be nothing in this that merits OR. Everything can be sourced. "I watched TV" is still not OR. --SVTCobra 01:10, 6 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

The concession speech by McCain and Obama's acceptance for starters. DragonFire1024 (Talk to the Dragon) 01:26, 6 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]
These are both readily available online. There is no need to cite quotes from these as OR. It was OK while the story was breaking and the speeches were live. At this point, it should be properly sourced and any discrepancies should be fixed. NPR has transcripts here: McCain and Obama. --SVTCobra 02:17, 6 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]
At the time they were not online. At the time the quotes were gathered from their live speeches. If the speeches appeared online a day after or more, then I don't think it makes sense to add sources for them. Would we do that for any other OR? DragonFire1024 (Talk to the Dragon) 11:47, 7 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I agree with DragonFire1024. Once the story is 24 hours old don't add sources - it makes the story anachronistic, and misrepresents the reporter's news gathering process in the archives. I suggest adding the links to the transcripts to the OR notes. --InfantGorilla (talk) 12:12, 7 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

What I said about OR (see above) applies here too. Anything that is solely sourced as "I saw it on TV" can easily be sourced to proper sources, available online (nearly everywhere). If you claim something that is not in "print" (read: online), please create a clear and distinct section for any material that cannot be sourced in the traditional manner. --SVTCobra 02:36, 6 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Seriously about the title[edit]

Do we REALLY need to keep bringing up the racial aspect and title this "...becomes first black president of the United States"??? How about we just title it "Barack Obama elected 44th President of the United States". I mean, for christ sake, let's look at the guy that is a President that HAPPENS to be black, not a black president. HE IS THE PRESIDENT-ELECT OF THE ENTIRE NATION, not just black people. Shame on you whoever titled this.

Good point. renamed. Anonymous101talk 05:36, 5 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Total Fixed[edit]

I fixed the total number of votes in the PrezResult08 template. I just totaled up the number of votes listed for each candidate. I came up with 115,878,227. The original number was somewhere around 87,000,000.

The change is still waiting approval.

Cool free images[edit]

Check out these maps, they're CC licensed! He says he'll update them when final results are in. Delldot (talk) 17:12, 5 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

They are very interesting, but some (if not all) of the modifications from a standard map are made per a certain POV. Maps are not only adjusted for population size, but for area. The blend of this is what is arbitrary and up to this person. The images are "beautiful" for lack of a better word, however, I just don't think they fit here. --SVTCobra 02:43, 6 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Electoral college votes[edit]

Barack Obama has 364 electoral votes, not 349 as your article states. (Numerous websites www.politico.com,www.270towin.com,www.npr.com,www.yahoopolitics.com,www.washingtonpost.com/politics, etc....) —Preceding unsigned comment added by Laurence Gilcrest (talkcontribs) 18:22, 9 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

The article was written on Wednesday based on forecast electoral college votes. Counting continued in several states for the next couple of days. Does that account for the discrepancy? --InfantGorilla (talk) 01:40, 10 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

In the results there is a error? 27 + 21 + 1 = 49 not 50 —Preceding unsigned comment added by 129.59.140.95 (talk) 14:31, 17 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Edit request[edit]

This page should be updated to reflect McCain winning Missouri.70.162.229.48 02:26, 27 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Disagree - that would make the story anachronistic. The story was published on Nov 5, but I don't think Missouri was called until Nov 19. The story was correct to report Missouri as 'too close'. --InfantGorilla (talk) 22:46, 3 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Please add [[ja:バラク・オバマ氏、44代アメリカ大統領に当選]].--Game-M (talk) 22:43, 20 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Done In the future please include {{editprotected}} so it doesn't get overlooked. Cheers, --SVTCobra 22:54, 20 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I understand it now. Thank you.--Game-M (talk) 02:37, 21 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
