  • All I can do is offer advice from Wikipedia, although I think the policy is WMF and not specific to Wikipedia:
You need a link to the image on the Commons and the description there. (I couldn't find it on the Commons) IMHO, there is not a Fair use rationale for that photo, unless wikinews has different policies. Best to find a Public domain photo. Mattisse (talk) 22:09, 3 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I haven't looked into this specific image, but there's no way we'll ever replace one image with another. That would be editing history. Blood Red Sandman (Talk) (Contribs) 22:13, 3 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Well, he just uploaded another image and replaced the deleted image in the article. So history has been edited. Mattisse (talk) 22:18, 3 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I asked for the image to be restored momentarily in Commons, and reuploaded it here. It is the picture that was on the article. --Diego Grez return fire 22:22, 3 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]
If I read correctly, Diego retrieved the image from Commons. Blood Red Sandman (Talk) (Contribs) 22:22, 3 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Why is there not a link to the Commons description? I hunted for the image on the Commons using its current name and could not find it. A link to the Commons file is needed. Also, he requests a completed Fair use rationale template (above), so he needs to provide the information for the rationale. He indicates that the image was deleted from the Commons for lack of a Fair use rationale. At least, that is my understanding of what he is saying. Mattisse (talk) 22:29, 3 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Quoting my previous edit summary, "how stupid", you are just making things harder. Read this carefully, okay? The image was deleted on Commons because it was a copyright violation. You asked for the image to be removed [from the article], that can't be done AFAIK, so I proposed to request the image to be restored at Commons momentarily in order to transfer it to here, and YOU would add a fair use rationale, since the picture is not free, and subsequently needs it. Everything that follows what I said, is completely moot and stupid. Said that, I recuse myself from responding you anymore. KTHX. Diego Grez return fire 22:37, 3 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Image had already been removed and was a red link - an image was uploaded today so that it no longer shows up as a red link[edit]

The red link was restored because an image was uploaded to wikinews today with the same name as the deleted image. See File:Fariba-iran-evin1.jpg uploaded on April 3, 2011. However the uploaded image contains a fair use warning:

It has apparently been deleted from the Commons because it lacks a Fair use rationale. The uploader requested that I provide a Fair use rationale (see above) which I cannot do. Perhaps wikinews does not follow the WMF rules regarding Fair use? Mattisse (talk) 23:21, 3 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]
