Icon[edit]

{{edit protected}} Could the icon File:150px-Druplicon.large.png be replaced by the larger File:Druplicon.large.png or File:Druplicon.vector.svg? Both have been available on Commons since 2007, whilst the local file was uploaded in 2008. Green Giant (talk) 19:39, 7 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]

If we were going to replace, I'd go with the .png, as the .svg doesn't render well for me at the given size. And I was going to say, I see no reason why not — but I'm pausing a bit first, because this puzzles me. The free version appears to have already existed when this was written; so, was it created by oversight, or is there something else going on? Perhaps the user who uploaded it didn't trust Commons not to delete their copy? (I do understand caution in that regard; a few years ago we ran an article using an image that had been on Commons with no problem for some years (six? nine? I've forgotten exactly), so you'd think it would be reasonable stable, but as soon as our article had been sitting around long enough that our archiving policy would not allow the image to be replaced, and while the image was on our number one lead on the main page so it was the single most prominent image on the whole project, it was deleted from Commons.) --Pi zero (talk) 20:19, 7 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]
I understand about the danger of deletion, and I can't guarantee anything but I've done a license review of both Commons files and confirmed that the icon has been released under GPL 2.0 which is an accepted license for Commons purposes. Green Giant (talk) 02:17, 8 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]
