• Please don't take offense, as I really respect the work of everyone involved, and I know I'm going to sound like a troll, but as someone who's done computer animation for years, I have to ask: Why couldn't the first "open source" CGI project use some real writing? I mean, I do appriciate abstract art from time to time, but a good short fiction plot would've advanced the idea of Open Source Content lightyears compared to the abstract (though well animated) film I just viewed. When 10% of the dialogue is a characters name (how often did he say "Emo?") you begin to question the abscence of plot. I know the interview addressed this as "non-arists don't get blender" or some such, but the fact is, I use blender a lot, I love it, it's great. "Elephants Dream" was rather lame though. The animation and the effects were a big step forward, especially for open source software, but the plot... it might as well have been a silent movie. People are going to look at this, and declare it useless, whereas if you'd done some existing story (maybe some old H.G. Wells tale or something) it could've been really be revolutionary. Was the plot a side-effect of having so many artists working on it, or was it intentional?--Xepher 2006-05-23
