We will need more OR notes. I am not suggesting you did this, but I don't know that the video was found on YouTube and then just transcribed. Does anyone have an e-mail we can contact this guy at? You can't really, because of the terms YouTube uses. What would be much, much better is if the files can be converted to a format Commons supports, and uploaded there. It then becomes possible to actually embed them in the Wikinews article. --Brian McNeil / talk 11:00, 28 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Soapy, are you the interviewer seen in the YouTube video? In other words, by what authority are you publishing this as CC-BY-2.5. Also, the interview on YouTube is a six-parter to which you only linked to the last part. --SVTCobra 11:55, 28 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

if the video is cc-by, to put it on the wikinews article (the following instructions assume some technical knowledge), you can download the video off youtube (in firefox, you can do this by watching the video, going to the url about:cache?device=disk then clicking on the video url (not the youtube webpage, the actual video. it will be a _really_ long url, probably starting with something.googlevideo and an 7-9 digit long data size. ) once you click on that, firefox will bring up a page showing you where on your disk that file is. Find it, rename it so it ends with .flv. Then get the program ffmpeg2theora to convert that file to ogg). Of course its a lot easier just to have the original video file. From what I understand the main problem was that he couldn't upload the video to the wiki commons because of some format issue, and since he's busy he doesn't want to convert the file, and I don't have the file so I think that we can pretty much give up hope that the orginal video file will get uploaded. Latest book[edit]

It says Hegemony or Survival is Chomsky's latest book, but he's written Failed States since then. --82.6.49.31 21:50, 13 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

He's also had a few books published since then, mostly oral dialog. For example, What We Say Goes, 2006, and Imperial Ambitions, 2006, both with David Barsamian. And Perilous Powers with Gilbert Achcar, 2006.

He revolutionized the field of linguistics with the publication of Syntactic Structures, in 1957 (I believe). He was about 28, not 40.

His latest book (not including collections of interviews, or previously published articles) is "Failed States" published in 2005. There may be a later authored book, it's hard to keep up with him.

Please fix The interview's audio ends with Chomsky saying, "...they can be undermined", but it has been transcribed as "...they can be overcome." Clearly, they mean the same thing, but these are not his words. Koavf (talk) 21:47, 4 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]
