Review of revision 944039 [Passed][edit]

inaccurate statements[edit]

The Orange Order organises parades and rallies in support of Ireland being a part of the United Kingdom.
Sinn Féin—a political party promoting an independent Ireland
  • Sinn Féin want a United Ireland not an independent Ireland.

This article is about a news in the UK not Ireland Mrchris (talk) 01:48, 26 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

At the very most, based on that you could add a clarifying 'Northern'. United Ireland - with no ties to the UK i.e. independant.
Also... Gordon Brown goes to Ireland to talk about Ireland and you seriously believe that has nothing to do with Ireland? Actually, the article occurred in both. N. Ireland is part of the UK. Blood Red Sandman (Talk) (Contribs) 01:59, 26 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Ok I thought that infoboxes related to countries, as Northern Ireland is not part of Ireland I thought that you should use the UK infobox. Again, Orange Order makes no claim on ireland becoming part of the UK. It is also confusing to say the Sinn Féin want an independent Ireland,(Ireland became independent years ago) they might want an independent Northern Ireland so that they might be able to create a United Ireland, however there is no evidence of this in any of the sources. p.s. I thought my changes clarified, what exactly is wrong with my changes to the article? ~~ Mrchris (talk) 02:11, 26 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]
You might believe that Sinn Féin want an independent Ireland with no ties to the UK but I can see no source for your claim. Sinn Féin want a United Ireland as it states on their website. And yes Northern Ireland is part of the UK, the Ireland infobox has the flag of Ireland, I think it would be silly to believe that Northern Ireland has left the UK and become part of Ireland, I can see no source for your claim. And Gordon Brown went to Northern Ireland to talk about Northern Ireland. ~~ Mrchris (talk) 02:57, 26 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I have tried to make changes to this article with have been rejected. I tried to discuss issued and have been ignored. This article is about Northern Irland, to say this article is about Ireland not the UK and to put an infobox with with Irish flag on it must be violate Wikinews:Neutral point of view. ~~ Mrchris (talk) 06:21, 26 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

You weren't ignored. It may have escaped your notice, but it was two in the morning. I did intendt to return to discussions in the morning proper, but your lack of patience has made me change my mind. Blood Red Sandman (Talk) (Contribs) 07:12, 26 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I did not realise you were the only editor and that it was only your view that mattered. As for lack of patience, you removed my edit in about 3mins and not one editor responed to my views in 5 hours. Again I say Northern Ireland is part of the United Kingdom, if you can point to sources that show I am wrong then give a link to them. But I agree you don't have to bother, I just think that it lacks a NPOV ~~ Mrchris (talk) 07:23, 26 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Well, your note on the talk page made it clear to anyone watching recent changes that you were talking directly to me. Would you rather I left your edit for an hour and then reverted it? That isn't a patience thing. You happen to be active during the overall quietest period worldwide. Five hours is a perfectly normal wait time. Blood Red Sandman (Talk) (Contribs) 07:43, 26 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I am not attempting to piss you off but I feel my views are valid. A story about Northern Ireland should have a UK infobox, and the other edits I made I believe to be correct. I don't see why they were reverted without a discussion about them. ~~ Mrchris (talk) 07:55, 26 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I am not simply brushing your views aside, but the way you approached discussion has made me not want to try and move forward with you. Hopefuly you will reach a consensus with others such as Dendodge who chip in here. Blood Red Sandman (Talk) (Contribs) 18:14, 26 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]
If I may chip in, as the author of the article, both of the disputed terms were added after a request on IRC, where it was asked that I explain the terms "Sinn Féin" and "loyalist" for an international audience. I admit that I did so rather clumsily, and that the facts as stated are not entirely clear. Maybe it would be best to remove the offending phrases until we can think of something better? I wouldn't expect it to count as a major edit, so it should be OK. Dendodge T\C 09:26, 26 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]
The article is great Dendodge, I just felt that these changes would help. I didn't plan on starting an argument. If I was out of line I apologise especially to Blood Red Sandman, I did lack patience. However, like Brown and Cowen I am confident that the issues are resolvable. ;o) ~~ Mrchris (talk) 10:19, 26 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Accepted, although I hope you'll forgive me for leaving this t be cleared up by others given the havoc so far caused here. Blood Red Sandman (Talk) (Contribs) 18:15, 26 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Infobox[edit]

As I said on my talk page, I've changed it to the UK infobox. I think we should have an infobox for the island of Ireland, but the current one is for the Republic, with the flag etc. so it's probably best to use the UK one.   Tris   09:11, 26 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]
