Pitching effectively not required[edit]

"Wes Littleton entered the game in relief for Texas in the last of the seventh, with his team already ahead 14-3. He earned a save by 'pitching effectively for at least three innings', shutting out the Orioles in the final three innings while his teammates scored another 16 insurance runs."

The rules for saves (section 10.19) were tweaked before the 2007 season, removing the "effectively" qualifier on long saves. The only requirement for a pitcher who finishes a lopsided victory is that "he pitches for at least three innings." Thus, the first part of the second sentence above should be changed to "He earned a save by pitching for at least three innings". 216.63.134.170 17:26, 2 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
