What is genocide[edit]

It's a little rediculous that they say "What is genocide while referring to Turkey?" and act so matter of fact about Bosnia (where upper estimates are like 8000 people being killed). Nyarlathotep 23:10, 12 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

non-NPOV[edit]

On the Armenian genocide the wording of the Reuters article is far superior to the current words, eg current wikinews "has been dismantled and postponed because Turkey raised objections to the Armenian genocide being mentioned." Note this wording does not even say "alleged genocide" compare that with the Reuters' words "after Turkish objections to a mention of the killing of Armenians in Turkey during World War One". The whole construction of the Reuters article carries a far better NPOV.

The Turkish government does not agree that it was a genocide. When reporting the incident Reuters for example is careful not to use the term instead it phrases it like this. "A U.N. exhibit on the 13th anniversary of the Rwanda genocide has been delayed after Turkish objections to a mention of the killing of Armenians in Turkey during World War One, organizers said on Monday."[1]. That Armenians were killed is not the issue the issue is whether it was a genocide and as wikinews has a eutral point of view policy it ought not state unequivocally that it was a genocide as it implies that the Turkish government is wrong which is not a NPOV. BTW Reuters does not say the "killings in Rwanda" it uses the term "Rwanda genocide" because an international tribunal has found that genocide took place in Rwanda.

The current wording of the Wikinews article assumes that is was a genocide. As the word did not exist at the time no one was tried for Genocide and unlike the Holocaust a seizable minority dispute that it was a genocide, as their views are clearly respected by the UN (hence their willingness to address Turkey's concerns), and so should Wikinews, as a major Wikinews policy is WN:NPOV. For this reason I am placed the NPOV template on this article. --PBS 13:12, 29 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

it is too late to copyedit the article for pov. Wikinews articles are not works in progress and, once published, will not be modified further. if there are factual errors in the article, however, a {{correction}} can be issued. i'll be removing the npov tag, but discussions about errors, if any, can continue. –Doldrums(talk) 13:43, 29 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]
