"Hey remember that nasty bout 38 years ago when we killed some people? Yeah, sorry about that. Our bad. There there, victims."

So seriously, why does it take 38 years to admit that a bunch of civilians didn't pose a threat to a military unit? Or that they were unarmed, when it should have been pretty damn easy to tell after they'd been killed?

There are lot of reasons, and almost none good. There is the fact that military inquiries are always about saving the face of the army and not about finding the truth. There is the idea that admitting the governement would damage the "honor " of the country. There is the idea that only "the others" are guilty while your side is always innocent and anything that says this to not be true is enemy propaganda. And so on and on...
