Jobs is Overrated
Steve Jobs was first and foremost a businessman. He wasn't out to make the world a better place-- he was after profit. He might have had good and innovative ideas, but he lacked the technical skills to implement them. Apple never would have gotten off the ground without Steve Wozniak (or an equally talented engineer). It's pretty disheartening how much press and public attention Jobs' death has received as opposed to, say Ralph Steinman. Scientists and technicians contribute the most to society and get the least recognition, with few exceptions. Jobs was more or less a celebrity, and people naively feel more connected to him so his death is somehow more significant. If someone who really contributed to technology like Dennis Ritchie, Ken Thompson, Linus Torvalds, or Richard Stallman died, 99% of the population would not care-- and I think that's probably what happened when Turing and Zuse died too.
I agree; Steve Jobs wasn't a hero, he was justa businessman going after our money. I also think that apple products are overated. Just because they are trendy and expensive it doesn't mean they are good. Much better to buy a common computer and install linux in it.
Jobs was actually a terrible person. He had an ego problem and wanted everything to be done by him and solely for his company. He was a technological dictator. Good riddance he is gone, now there actually might be room for peace.
