Turing Test put to the test--April 18th, 2005[edit]

First of all, I'd like to apologize for the lack of articles for the last few days. I've had writer's block and no spare time.

But anyways, some university students decided to do a more modern version of the Turing Test. Using AOL Instant Messenger to communicate with their test subjects, they tested random people on their ability to differentiate between a machine (specifically, ALICE} and a human.

More specifically, they were asked to find the woman in the conversation. There was one real woman, and the machine was trying to "impersonate" a woman. The results, however, have not yet been published.

I'm hoping most people got it right. I've seen a few ALICE conversations, including one where two machines talked to each other, and they didn't look too intelligent to me...
