PROVO, Utah - The city of Provo is about to change a law which prohibited a home owner from having both a pet cat and dog at the sema time.

Current city law forbids residents from owning a dog and a cat together. The City Council is expected to change the law at it's meeting next month.

The problem was discovered when Susan Sewell and her family went to the Utah County Animal Shelter to adopt a kitten in August. The family already has a cat and a dog.

When the Sewells filled out the adoption papers the shelter staff told them they adopt the kitten because Provo only allowed residents to have cats or dogs, but not both.

"I know people can't be having five, six, seven animals running around," Sewell said. "But if you are a responsible pet owner, why limit it to two? If you have two dogs, your kid can't ever have a cat." told the Provo Herald.
