NASCAR Sprint Cup Series driver Juan Pablo Montoya won his first pole position of the season on Friday for the 2011 Auto Club 400 that will be held at Auto Club Speedway in Fontana, California. His time of 38.992 seconds was faster than all others who qualified. Denny Hamlin followed Montoya in the second position with a time of 39.073.

Joey Logano was scored in the third position, ahead of Regan Smith and Tony Stewart. David Ragan was sixth, still within a second of Montoya's time. Jeff Burton, Kyle Busch, Ryan Newman and Mark Martin finished the first ten positions. Since there were only 43 drivers entered in the qualifying session, which was delayed one hour because of rain, no drivers failed to qualify for Sunday's race.

Afterward, Montoya described his team's happiness with their season's results, "It seems like we have a lot of potential this year and it's pretty exciting. Pit crew is doing an amazing job week in and week out. They are getting so much faster than they were doing before. Just everybody on the team is really excited and pumped up — it's nice to see."

The race will be held at 15:00 EDT on March 27, 2011. The race will be broadcast on Fox in the United States. It will also be broadcast on the radio station Motor Racing Network at 14:00 EDT.
