Fraser Coast will only field a reserve grade side this season. The club, which plays in the Sunshine Coast, Australia competition, struggled through 2013, even having to forfeit matches.

"If you don't have the class to play A-grade then you can't do it," Mariners coach Sam Potts said. "Trying to facilitate sides for A-grade and reserve grade last year was quite hard and that's why we had to forfeit a few games."

Maleny are the only other club to field a reserve grade senior side. However, they are seen as a developing side.

"[Maleny] had success last year, but they had a very young team and to take them up [to A-Grade] too early could be damaging," Sunshine Coast Rugby Union rugby manager Luke Wyatt said.

Fraser Coast hopes to return to the A-Grade competition in the next couple of years. Until then, only five clubs - namely Caloundra, Maroochydore, Nambour, Noosa and University - will field A-Grade teams.
