Welcome[edit]

Anonymous101/Archive1, welcome to Wikinews! I hope you like the place and decide to stay. Here are a few good links for newcomers:

Our key policies - if you read anything, read these!

Here a few pointers to help you get to know Wikinews:

There are always things to do on Wikinews:

By the way, you can sign your name on Talk pages using four tildes (~~~~), which produces your name and the current date. If you have any questions, you can ask them at the water cooler or to anyone on the Welcommittee, or ask me on my Talk page. Again, welcome! Adambro 18:08, 27 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I have been checking through my talk pages and have realized I never thanked you for welcoming me to Wikinews so I am thanking you for the welcome now. Sorry it is two months late. --User:Anonymous101 Talk 19:24, 11 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

It's published now. --SVTCobra 19:08, 27 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Can I just say that when moving an article from ready to needs development you shoul give a reason in the talk page, which you did not do.As an admin I would expect you to follow simple guidelines like these. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Anonymous101 (talkcontribs) 19:15, 27 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
You may say that, but I might remind you that on two occasions, you re-published this article after it was un-published by different admins without properly addressing the problems with the article. When an unfit article is published, my first concern is to unpublish it. I will do that with no explanation on the talk page at first, and just move it to {{develop}}. Then, I will either fix it or post something on the talk page (collaboration page). But I had no chance to do that. You, first republished, then moved to ready, before I had any chance to do either of two. (and to muck it up further, an anon re-published in the same span of time.) Afterall, this was only unpublished for 22 minutes, so I wouldn't fret about it. --SVTCobra 19:29, 27 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Listen, I unpublished at 18:43 you republished at 18:44. That didn't really give me a chance to do anything, did it? Now, I would like to tell you that you wrote a great article and your use of images and quoteleft were great to see from a first-time contributor, but you combative nature is getting on my nerves. --SVTCobra 19:43, 27 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Re: Interview with Reggie Bibbs on his life with neurofibromatosis[edit]

Thanks for trying to help out, unfortunately I'm behind an annoyingly strong internet filter which prevents me from checking the uploaded video myself! --Steven Fruitsmaak (Reply) 18:35, 6 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Re: Quiz[edit]

Hi,

Thank you very much for your friendly comment, I try to make it fun and I aim so that most people would get something between 5 and 8 /10. See you around and enjoy Wikinews! If you have any questions or need any help, or if you want to collaborate on something, please let me know.

--Steven Fruitsmaak (Reply) 21:50, 7 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

A note on using QuoteLeft[edit]

When using QuoteLeft (or QuoteRight), you are supposed to be high-lighting something from the article to pique the reader's interest. Therefore, anything in a QuoteLeft should added to the body of the article as well. Cheers, --SVTCobra 16:17, 11 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Test[edit]

I am experimenting with the UKhello template I have created

Hi Anonymous101/Archive1, welcome to Wikinews! Thank you for your contributions; I hope you like the place and decide to stay! I see that you've been contributing to articles about the UK. If you're British, you may want to take a look at the UK portal. If you haven't done so already, you may want to create an account to protect your identity.

By the way, you can sign your name on Talk pages using four tildes (~~~~), which produces your name and the current date. If you have any questions, you can ask them at the water cooler or anyone on the Welcommittee, or ask me on my Talk page. Again, welcome! --User:Anonymous101 18:18, 11 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for doing it. I have been away for a few days, so it is nice to see it getting done. I will back friday, so if you could keep doing it till then, that would be wonderfull--Cspurrier 23:04, 18 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Why did you redirect Wikinews Print edition: new features to the news article? Was that a mistake? FellowWiki Newsie 19:05, 19 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

You can create it again as Wikinews:Print edition/new features, then it will not be in the main space. FellowWiki Newsie 19:12, 19 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thai election[edit]

Hope you don't mind how I pretty much "took over" the Thai election article. I've done a fair bit on the events leading up to Thaksin being deposed and followed what happened after. You could say I got lucky with some of the really early stories on this which I didn't add to the now-overloaded related section. I followed Thaksin's battle with some of his opponents in the media and the PR disaster that his efforts to silence them turned into. --Brian McNeil / talk 10:01, 24 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hi,

just to let you know that you can replace your signature (I prefer...) with something like (Reply), which you can also use on your talk page.

Please be informed that we have a tradition (and there might be a policy somewhere) of not having images in our signatures, I seem to have noticed Image:Anonymous101.jpg on several talk pages, please make sure not to include any images in your signature (for image spamming and server resource reasons). --Steven Fruitsmaak (Reply) 22:30, 26 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Isn't quoting paragraph's from blogs and press releases a copyvio. ( I am contacting you as you were one of the users who edited the article). Please respond so I know whether to include it in the Wikinews Print Edition (as I don't want copyvios in the print edition). I am not saying you added the apparent copyvio but I need an answer soon so I am contacting most users who edited that page. User:Anonymous101 09:29, 28 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

No, in this case copying wholesale isn't. These blogs and press releases were created with the express purpose of getting the candidate's message out to the widest amount of people possible. Thus, if they're cited as being from whatever site, and they are shown as being a quote, this is completely fair use.
Occasionally, my local major newspaper has reprinted entire speeches and testimonies, taking up a few thousand words each.
I'm guessing it's too late for the print edition now, but I'm not sure how many would be interested in reading the article anyway. -- Zanimum 17:08, 28 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

For example[edit]

I am reasonably confident it can be published but just to be sure I have marked it for review
by other editors. I had one very very minor issue with POV (It was minor, only one word) but
except for that well done..--User:Anonymous101 Talk 16:05, 14 January 2008 (UTC)

Thanks. Out of curiosity, what was the POV word/sentence? -- 203.57.68.20 15:34, 15 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Never mind, just checked history, saw it. Lucrative. Macquarie Bank (where he was reportedly offered a senior position) is called the "millionaire factory". One of our most consistently performing fin institutions. Lucrative seemed like an understatement really. When Mac offers you a job, you think about it. Haven't reverted, reads better. Other than that, thnx for help.

Oh, BTW, w:How to archive a talk page doesn't link where you think it does. It's trying to call up an article, not an in-house help page. w:Wikipedia:How to archive a talk page links to w:Help:Archiving a talk page, which is what you wanted, I think.

I agree it is lucrative but some may consider it as POV . Well done for your excellent work. Thanks for telling me about the archiving a talk page thing. I just created the archive and never checked, I used an archive design that many other users use. I used that link by looking at other users talk page. Thanks for your help. I'll create a redirect as I think so many users use this link. Thanks for telling me. --User:Anonymous101 Talk 16:01, 15 January 2008 (UTC)

No probs. That's how I found it didn't work. Anyway, just reread my comment, "other than that, thanks" reads as if "that" bothered me.
It didn't, of course. As I said, your edit read better. (Ie, regardless of a POV issue, lucrative read sloppy.) I went through the same issue with "slammed", "attacked", type words. Once I NPOVed them, it seemed to read better anyway. -- 203.57.68.20 16:16, 15 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

RSS[edit]

I don't suppose you know the subscriber count on the main RSS feed? Even the count on any other feed would be a help, this is for a press release/project summary. --Brian McNeil / talk 10:05, 19 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

The audio one would be a start. I believe you should also look at the possibility of getting reports into iTunes. Used to be possible to subscribe to the Print Edition on there. [And you can respond here, I've your page on my watch list.] --Brian McNeil / talk 10:14, 19 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I am about to try and get the subsciber count. The problem with iTunes is that it only supports the (patented) mp3 format, which Wikimedia does not suport. There are plugins that allow you to play ogg in iTunes and if you have one of them you can subscribe to this podcast by clicking on the iTunes link in the feed.
I have got some RSS feed stats but tthe figure in quite low due to the fact the feed got changed to this feed just 14 and a half hous ago. This feed has been accesed 12 times in that time. I am sure it will increase as the feed develops so and I will happily give you figures in a day or so if you want better figures. Due to the age of the feed some of the data is currently not available. It will be available 24 hours after I created it. --User:Anonymous101 Talk 10:45, 19 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
This might be low because the feed hasn't worked for 6 months and ot suddenly started working again. Most people will not be aware in the change of feed and that it works again. --User:Anonymous101 Talk 10:47, 19 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I will happily give you more info if required --User:Anonymous101 Talk 19:56, 19 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

That's fine with me. I intend to become more active in Wikinews but if someone else is willing to maintain the RSS feed, I am happy. --Munchkinguy 03:23, 23 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Re: Obits...[edit]

Thanks for the feedback on last weekend's obits article. Not sure if I can guarantee a weekly or regular appearance, as that article actually took a fair bit of time to put together, even with sources and content readily available. Regular features really require some sort of group effort - witness the on/off action with the Audio Wikinews. However, I could rough in an obits article for this weekend and hope people can contribute and expand things. DL+1613 03:02, 25 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Vienna protest?[edit]

Suggest moving POV section to 'Collaboration' or Opinions page with appropriate warnings...

It may still be genuine and I've asked politely in #Wikipedia-de if someone could check the claims in regard to Vienna, possibly with the Vienesse authorities.. 62.56.64.224 16:43, 10 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Good Idea. I am contacting the author of that section to see if he has verification for the claims (photographs etc.) . Anonymous101 Talk RfA 16:46, 10 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Respond to your message - I am the author of the article, and which proof do you mean? It is a "first hand report", meaning the author has witnessed or was involved in the told. So, a report like this usually has no proof. It IS proof, so to speak. If not proof, then source. Where do you think, the article is biased? I do not know, how to discuss with you other than that, so if I made a mistake technically please inform me how to do it right. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 91.141.118.34 (talk) 17:33, 10 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

*Do you have photo's or recordings which would confirm the dispersal?

No. I don't.

* Have you clarified why the protest was dispersed with the Vienesse authorites?

Yes. The man who read the paper (protesters have his number) said, that it is not a normal meeting, since there were fliers handed out and therefore the meeting should have been announced with the authorities, which obviously failed. I don't know.

Well, I understand that the rules of wikipedia do not allow a first hand report, and can understand if you move it meanwhile. The scientologists outnumbered true critics in Vienna, thus I have doubts that there will be someone, who does verify officially what I said. But probably one could ask the authorities, there were police officers in uniforms, and they have witnessed it. Probably you can talk to them, otherwise, forget about it. Ask for the uniformed. The ones in allday-suites are those who did not act correctly, so they might deny what I say. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 91.141.118.34 (talk) 17:47, 10 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Admin status granted[edit]

Congratulations, you have just been made a sysop! You have volunteered for boring housekeeping activities which normal users sadly cannot participate in. Sysops basically can't do anything: They cannot delete pages arbitarily (only obvious junk like "jklasdfl,öasdf JOSH IS GAY"), they cannot protect pages in an edit war they are involved in, they cannot ban users except in cases of obvious vandalism or excessive edit warring (24-hour "cool down" ban). What they can do is delete junk as it appears, ban vandals, remove pages that have been listed on Deletion requests for more than a week, protect pages when asked to by other members, and help keep the few protected pages there are up to date.

Note that almost everything you can do can be undone, so don't be too worried about making mistakes. You will find more information on Wikinews:Administrators, please take a look before experimenting with your new powers. Drop me a message if there are any questions or if you want to stop being a sysop (could it be?). Brian | (Talk) | New Zealand Portal 21:47, 17 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Congratulations! Theo Assen - (talk) 21:55, 17 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Congrats!  :) Btw, one thing that'll make people extra happy with having you as an admin is if you occasionally help archive articles. Brian didn't mention it specifically, but that's where the most admin work is. But do pay attention to following the guide lines for that. Nyarlathotep - (talk) 11:46, 18 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Semi-Protection[edit]

Please consider unprotecting your user talk page. The current level of vandalism does not justify this and since it has all been from one IP address can be more effectively and appropriately dealt with my blocking the IP in question as I note you have done. If this was many IPs then I'd understand but this isn't such a big problem. Adambro - (talk) 16:38, 7 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I will unprotect it but if the user continues vandalizing my talk page after his block finishes I will have to re-protect it.--Anonymous101 (Talk) 16:41, 7 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Okay, if that happens I'd invite you to block this user again for a longer time period. I don't feel protection of the page can be justified based upon the vandalism of a single IP. Adambro - (talk) 16:47, 7 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
This was written before your last message - But I think that he will probably vandalize my talk page as soon as his block expires (this has happened last time his block expired). Not that it was only semi-protected so the vast majority of users could still contact me. --Anonymous101 (Talk) 16:47, 7 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Trying to start a flame war on the waterboarding mess[edit]

This is 24.98.235.224 (currently on campus);

After seeing a bunch of emotion filled comments I decided to try to start an even nastier flame war in order to get some reasonable sources, with little success. I'll just like your opinion on Bush's latest radio address. He cites some specific examples, but is there any way to confirm them? A large part of the debate over torture is that it doesn't produce useful information as the victims will say anything to end their mistreatment.

That aside, the wikinews article itself seems to imply that Bush is supporting all sorts of nasty (already illegal) things other than waterboarding. (168.28.43.93 19:20, 10 March 2008 (UTC))[reply]

That page seems to imply you're checking them all by hand. Thats really something that should be done by a computer as doing it by hand must get rather boring. Bawolff 22:39, 11 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Adding UK info to Moldava template (transferred from other page)[edit]

Why did you add UK logo to moldova template --Anonymous101 (talk · contribs) 12:16, 21 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Refresh, to see the latest news ;) --Serhio - (talk) 12:17, 21 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

OK --Anonymous101 (talk · contribs) 12:21, 21 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Featured picture[edit]

I think we should probably consider moving to separate featured pictures from those displayed in the news in pictures displayed on the main page. Since featured pictures should really be subject to a community discussion before being defined as such and this process doesn't fit in with the current idea of displaying a relevant image of a recent news event. In the current situation there is little value to declaring proudly that an image is featured because it doesn't mean anything more than one editor has decided to put it in news in pictures on the main page.

We might even wish to consider scrapping the whole concept of a WN featured picture altogether if it doesn't seem workable. Adambro - (talk) 16:10, 21 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

"Featured" is a misnomer, the "News in pictures" header is more appropriate. It's just meant to make the front page more graphical and to promote photojournalism: consider renaming the template if you want to avoid further confusion. --Steven Fruitsmaak (Reply) 16:26, 21 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Please note that I just used the Wikinews template name and moved it to commons with wikinews-en before it. --Anonymous101 (talk · contribs) 17:18, 21 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Dealing with talk page messages[edit]

Please don't spread identical discussions over multiple talk pages. Keep it in one place. If it is more appropriate to discuss it elsewhere then move it but delete it from the original location and link to the new location. Cheers. Adambro - (talk) 17:51, 21 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

OK, just some users prefer it if responses are found at their talk page --Anonymous101 (talk · contribs) 18:06, 21 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
People should be adding pages where they leave comments to their watchlist really to avoid this issue. In some circumstances it might be appropriate to leave a message saying that a reply has been made in the original location in case the page isn't being watched. Adambro - (talk) 18:09, 21 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
OK. --Anonymous101 (talk · contribs) 18:10, 21 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

source[edit]

I didn't recognize that I was required to give you the source. when I was sent this, I gave a link on the article page a link to where this and others like it could be seen, which is here. I stated that the picture was part of the irin copyrights, but I only did this because I couldn't find a copyright that fit my circumstances —Preceding unsigned comment added by Danthemango (talkcontribs) 03:49, 25 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

MNF-I articles[edit]

Hi, I have seen your articles which were written largely from MNF-I press releases. Is this an expirement? While you do correctly attribute all the claims to the press-release, the resulting articles are rather single-point-of-view. "Iraq" among all others stands at the forefront of world newscoverage and we need not write articles from this narrow POV. While I encourage you to include the direct source of the MNF-I in articles (which main-stream media rarely does), I strongly suggest that you also include other sources as they are abudant. Please broaden the coverage. --SVTCobra 01:59, 2 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I try to include other sources and will make sure I do in the future. --Anonymous101 (talk · contribs) (Note I have no link with the organization anonymous) 06:39, 2 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

When you archived the Scientology protest article, you removed a whole section from the article about the Portland, Oregon protest. It was published in the article on March 17 (the article itself was published March 15, which is two days), I think that probably would've been okay to stay. Also, a gallery of pictures taken by User:Rankun was credited to User:TUFKAAP accidentally. The photographer tried to correct this mistake, but the edit was reverted and they were given a talk page notice about late edits. There was also some copy edits and npov changes that were removed, I think you should note that not all late edits to an article are bad. The main rule is just make sure they don't add information that wasn't available at the time of publication. (Zachary) 07:39, 3 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Former Featured Pic Template and category removal....[edit]

If the Template:Wikinews NIP is unusable and replaced by proper Template:News in pictures, should Category:Featured pictures and its linked pages, templates be deleted? Brock contact... 02:36, 4 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hi,

this template is unused because it is used for quick creation of infoboxes. For some reason, the category parameter doesn't fill. You just need to {{subst:Infobox|TOPIC}} and then correct it manually.

Interviews[edit]

Hi, sorry, but at the moment I am sorting things out under my real name. What I would advise - what I should be doing - is that you operate under a false name. Certainly in the UK (where abouts are you?) we have the right to use alternative names to our legal names; this is probably the same accross much of the world and so long as you tell the police should they ask it should all be legal. Sorry I can't be of more assistance. Blood Red Sandman (Talk) (Contribs) 19:31, 13 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I've just double checked it (I'm related to a lawyer) and there are certainly no catches here in the UK. Good luck if you decide to do this. Blood Red Sandman (Talk) (Contribs) 19:37, 13 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Full quote[edit]

I don't think we should have the full quote in the article. The Los Angeles Times omitted it, and did not have that list of all those individuals who were threatened. I think that is a bit much. Cirt - (talk) 13:47, 19 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Actually this information was oversighted on Wikipedia, and should be oversighted here too. Cirt - (talk) 13:48, 19 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I agree that having the names of the students is too much, but I think the threat's mention of "a good majority of the badminton team, and almost every single fob" is significant enough to be included. ~Planoneck~ 14:02, 19 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Okay that was also in the Los Angeles Times, I will add that. Cirt - (talk) 14:04, 19 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

FYI[edit]

RE deletion[edit]

I am not blaming just you. I am just upset that we have a process set aside for all this and IMHO not a single one was followed by anyone who was participating in the DR or otherwise. If it was not news, then it should have been tagged as such or it should have not been published. I admit I don't know your reason for wanting it deleted and would like to know why if you are willing to say. I just find it hard to believe that a good contributer like you would suddenly want it deleted without saying why. Is everything ok?

I cannot just blame you because other admins were fully aware of what was going on. They were as much responsible as you or I. It is news worthy and is legit. But because a few new users, or anon users who comment on it not being real does not men its not. It also does not mean its not news. With the exception of the anon who nominated it for DR, all others who commented on it were new people. I thought it was a good article and I in now way doubted your reporting. I get discouraged too when I get bad comments or otherwise on what I wrote. But I also know that i took the time to make sure what i was writing about was accurate based on available information. If it, weeks or days later turned out to be false then I am willing to accept defeat. DragonFire1024 (Talk to the Dragon) 20:31, 20 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I must say I disagree with DragonFire. I don't think it was newsworthy, but then, I hardly consider Scientology's donation of 18 books about Scientology to a library newsworthy, either. 75.15.204.227 08:23, 21 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you[edit]

Thank you for your support, your trust in me, and your nomination. As an aside, with regard to the deletion thing, I think the article should stay/be kept - but I also think you are a valued contributor here and I hope that you are doing okay. Cirt - (talk) 07:26, 21 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Deleted[edit]

I just deleted it, as it was a blatant copyvio. Cirt - (talk) 17:00, 22 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

It is usually preferred to keep copyvio pages for a couple of days. --A101 - (talk) 17:02, 22 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Um, this should not have been restored, not only is it a blatant copyvio, and also advertising/spam, as per Wikinews:Speedy deletion guidelines, but it is also from December 2007, not even news. No need to wait any length of time before deleting, as it fits multiple different criteria from Wikinews:Speedy deletion guidelines Cirt - (talk) 17:03, 22 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
It fits both points (6) and (11) from Wikinews:Speedy deletion guidelines, of the few, limited, cases where admins can delete Wikinews pages "on sight". Cirt - (talk) 17:04, 22 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Even blatant copyvios are usually kept for a few days, even though policy alllows them to be kept and as it was basically a press release it should be kept, IMO, to allow for a rewrite. --A101 - (talk) 17:05, 22 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
It is usually standard pratice to keep these types of article (marked as copyvio) to allow for a rewrite. However, as oplicy allows it, feel free to redelte it. --A101 - (talk) 17:06, 22 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
If something that satisfies not one but two points from Wikinews:Speedy deletion guidelines, the page that expressly lays out the few cases where pages can be deleted "on sight", but you feel that even in the case where two criteria are satisfied - then what is the point of even having Wikinews:Speedy deletion guidelines ? Cirt - (talk) 17:06, 22 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Based on most previous cases like this I am saying it may want to be restored, although, I have no problem with you deleting it/ --A101 - (talk) 17:08, 22 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
However, after realising its age I agree that there is not point in giving it time to be rewrittern. So, please delete it --A101 - (talk) 17:08, 22 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Wikinews:Speedy deletion guidelines:

  • There are a few, limited, cases where admins can delete Wikinews pages "on sight".
6. - Advertising or spam.
11. - An obvious copyright violation that is a cut-and-paste exact or near-exact duplicate of content from a copyrighted source.

And, in addition, the "news" was from December 2007. Seems pretty cut and dry to me. Cirt - (talk) 17:09, 22 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Please see my above comment. I know the guidlines, I am just saying that even direct copy/paste copyvios or press releases are often kept (with page marked as copyvio to allow time for rewrite. However, after realising its age I agree that there is not point in giving it time to be rewrittern. So, please delete it. --A101 - (talk) 17:11, 22 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Done, deleted Record 2007 Texas Personal Injury Verdict, again, per your request to delete it, above. Cirt - (talk) 17:11, 22 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Clarify[edit]

If, in your opinion, points 6 and 11 by themselves, without the fact that the article was also a blatant copyvio about something from December 2007, is not enough to satisfy speedy deletion, then in your opinion should those points just be removed from WN:SD? If not, then please clarify in what circumstances you do support speedy deletion? Cirt - (talk) 17:13, 22 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

To me it just seemed like a press release which is a blantant copyvio and advertsing. Usually press releases are kept for two days before deletion. --A101 - (talk) 17:15, 22 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

DO you want to discuss this on IRC as it would be easier to talk in real time then. --A101 - (talk) 17:17, 22 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Respectfully request that you undo your last edit. Not proper to list a (previously published) article as {{abandoned}}, especially while it is currently undergoing a Deletion request discussion, with opinions on both sides of the matter being hashed out. Cirt - (talk) 17:46, 29 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

OK, but it might as well be deleted anyway as it is way too old to be published now. --A101 - (talk) 17:48, 29 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
It was already published, that is the point. Once the WN:DR is completed, if the consensus is Keep, it should just be republished w/ the original publish date, and archived. It would be different if it was never published in the first place. Cirt - (talk) 17:49, 29 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
OK, by the way, shouldn't the DR be closed as it has been open for over a week. I would close it but I created the article.--A101 - (talk) 17:50, 29 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Agreed. I would close it but I commented with a "Keep" sentiment in the discussion. So far the deletion request (started by an Anon-IP by the way, which I thought was not allowed under the new changes to WN:DR per consensus that new users can't vote, from discussion at Wikinews:Water_cooler/policy#Who_can_vote_on_deletion_requests) has 5 Keeps, 3 Removes, and some comments. Cirt - (talk) 17:57, 29 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

My take on that would be that the consensus is actually something like No consensus, leaning towards Keep. Cirt - (talk) 17:58, 29 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

If you no longer want that account renamed, could you also get in touch so I know that you don't need me to take any further action. WJBscribe - (talk) 20:03, 29 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I have responsded at my Rfa, thanks for your concideration.--Ryan524 - (talk) 16:27, 30 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the advice[edit]

Thanks for your help. I have added photos to my article. So far, the only source is the one I cited, bu tthis is a very reliable one. Probably there will be more sources in the morning, but by then it will be old news.--Poetlister - (talk) 21:30, 30 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Please see article's talk page. Cirt - (talk) 19:11, 1 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

If you are going to add additional sources to that article, might help to add some material to the article, sourced to those new sources. Doesn't do much good to just plop them down at the bottom.  :) Cirt - (talk) 20:40, 1 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Retraction[edit]

Yes, I do. I reckon we should modify the box from 'may be' to 'has been' as there is now solid evidence disproving the story. Thanks for getting to it, though. Blood Red Sandman (Talk) (Contribs) 16:36, 3 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I have started WN:TO-DO as a place to list what should be daily or weekly points to check for regular contributors. Some parts are admin-only (e.g. Archiving) but others are things that anyone can get involved with. Feel free to add additional points and spread the word about this shortcut to get people helping do Wikignome tasks. --Brian McNeil / talk 15:49, 4 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

RE: RfA and AR[edit]

I am no longer seeking Accreditation, and their is no point leaving the Rfa on the templates as voting is closed, the election just hasn't been certified so to speak...lol.--Ryan524 - (talk) 22:05, 7 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I am done - you may expand it. --SVTCobra 15:08, 9 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Re: Welcome Back[edit]

Sadly, I'm not exactly "back", so I would not like control of AW. I will however be doing Audio Newsbreifs for the next 2 weeks (starting Monday), and who knows after that. But thank you for the welcome. It's nice to talk to old friends. --Munchkinguy - (talk) 02:33, 10 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

rfdas[edit]

hehe no problem, i know there was a big huge list there :-p --MarkTalk to me 17:19, 10 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Archiving drive[edit]

Before you get ahead of yourself, please see this diff of archiving edits that should have been made per WN:ARCHIVE to Britain expects troops out of Iraq within next 4 years. We must not rush, but rather be dilligent and do it right. --SVTCobra 20:43, 11 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Australian Greens senator Bob Brown marks 10 years in Parliament was better, but not perfect (mine might not be perfect either). I made several changes see this diff. One thing that I noticed in both articles were the blank lines between sources and the lack of local links. --SVTCobra 21:03, 11 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Another example: diff for Researchers say Ozone Hole "likely to contract, may disappear". Cheers, --SVTCobra 21:23, 11 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I can't see which of the SD criteria this falls under. As youu nominated it, would you mind explaining Anonymous101 :) 14:52, 12 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I agree that is not on WN:SDG but on the other hand, we cannot publish news that is this old, and I'd hate to have to go through and entire WN:DR everytime this happens. Perhaps, we need to add this as a valid reason for speedy, what do you think? --SVTCobra 14:59, 12 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Kuwait, late emir.[edit]

Thanks for your comments, i started the page before i registered an account. I wanted people to know, because it started out as a rumor and people were unsure if there was any truth behind it. My ultimate goal is to get the news up on the main wikipedia news section. Thanks :)

Could you please change the pic on the main page for lead article 4, i have submitted an image that is available on the main article itself. thanks Aalsaleh (talk) 22:58, 13 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I am, once again, putting myself up for Rfa. I would appriciate it if you could stop by My RFA and vote. Wheter support or oppose I would appriciate your vote to avoid another situation of having too few votes.-Ryan524 (talk) 23:17, 13 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
