Typos/Errors[edit]

If you find any typos or errors, report them here. You can fix them if you want, but tell me what you did first (in the case of a major error, tell me but please do not fix it). If you find it but don't want to/don't have time to fix it, report it and I'll check it ASAP. Thank you. Cap'n Refsmmat 00:11, 8 Jan 2005 (UTC)

Heh... found one in the above paragraph. Fixed. Cap'n Refsmmat 21:25, 11 Jan 2005 (UTC)

Template this?[edit]

Just a suggestion, but if you want you could create single page (such as User:Cap'n Refsmmat/ScienceNewsTemplate) and an archive (such as User:Cap'n Refsmmat/ScienceNewsArchive), and then put only a single news blurb in the template at a time. When you have a new news item, add the old one to the archive first, then replace it in the template.

The reason for this is that other users can then include your ScienceNewsTemplate in their pages, or in one of the News articles. The way they can do it is to add {{User:Cap'n Refsmmat/ScienceNewsTemplate}} to a page and it will automagically be inserted there. You could put it in a sized box, and then it would be possible to set it into other pages whereever the person would like.

  <div style="float:right>
  {{User:Cap'n Refsmmat/ScienceNewsTemplate}}
  </div>

See what I mean? - Amgine 00:59, 8 Jan 2005 (UTC)

Okay, that's a great idea. So this is like a thing so they can have the latest article on their page? Would I make it Template:Blah blah or just User:Cap'n Refsmmat and so on? I thought templates were preceded by Template:
I'll work on getting this done tomorrow if I have time. Thanks. Cap'n Refsmmat 03:31, 8 Jan 2005 (UTC)
Wikinews templates are in the template namespace. But a feature of the mediawiki software is to allow any page to be included in another by placing the page name in curly braces. So, until your column becomes "official", users may choose to use your userspace page as a "user template". (now if I could just come up with another use of "user" ...) - Amgine 03:34, 8 Jan 2005 (UTC)
Okay, I did that, but now when I change the template it doesn't show the changes. This is just odd. Cap'n Refsmmat 20:19, 8 Jan 2005 (UTC)
Never mind that, I used the article purge thing you showed me on my talk page (after modifying the link to be my page) and now everythings good. Hope you like it. I'm adding instructions on how to use them soon. Cap'n Refsmmat 20:24, 8 Jan 2005 (UTC)

Good job on your Science column[edit]

Thanks for taking the time to compile such interesting items.

As a reader with high cholesterol, I'm interested in the item "A vaccine for heart disease!". Do you have any more details about this item?

I hope your Science column can get a link on the main page. Your choice of items has a lot of personality.

Regards,

I second DV's praise. I think this is well-written and provides actual news in a format that's much easier to write than a full article. -- IlyaHaykinson 03:54, 9 Jan 2005 (UTC)
Thank you very much.
DV--the treatment will be entering human trials in just a few years. If I have a chance I'll look back to give you all of the statistics, but the one I remember is that the mice lost 70% of their plaque compared to the control mice. The antibodies themselves destroyed plaque and prevented it from building up for several weeks, with the effects starting extremely quickly. Cap'n Refsmmat 20:43, 9 Jan 2005 (UTC)

New template[edit]

Anyone have ideas to make the page look better or to re-design it?
Also, to whoever was on IRC, sorry for getting off so abruptly. I just keep closing the wrong tab... Cap'n Refsmmat 22:08, 13 Apr 2005 (UTC)

Sources[edit]

i read somewhere else, someone complaining about the lack of sources in the collumn. How about as a compromise a link at the bottom saying [[User:Cap'n Refsmmat/ScienceNews/sources|Further reading]] or something like that. ~The bellman | Smile 12:35, 18 Apr 2005 (UTC)

Hmmm... I have sources, they're just magazines and such that most people don't get, and they're not available online.
I'll try to include what I can in some way or another. Cap'n Refsmmat 20:00, 20 Apr 2005 (UTC)
