I removed your front page temp link

I removed the temporary link you put up on the main page. Some of the Tsunami Help pages are up for deletion and I thought it too controversial for us dedicate front page real estate to promote a project that may not be wholly in keeping with the WN mission. -- Davodd | Talk 14:39, 1 Jan 2005 (UTC)

Weather location changes

We haven't seen a report for Stanley (Falkland Islands) in a long time (or ever when using weatherchecker). Apparently the National Weather Service hasn't published any data for that location for a while. I suggest we switch to code EGYP, which is described as "EGYP - Mount Pleasant Airport, South Georgia and the South Sandwich Islands @ -51.817'S -58.45'W 74m". There are a few other cities that haven't shown data (Oslo, I think) — I'll try to track it down later. -- IlyaHaykinson 05:07, 4 Jan 2005 (UTC)

Proposed Water cooler layout

Have you had an opportunity to see this proposed layout? It implements some of your changes, and expanded on it.

There's also another page at Water cooler sections which allows and easy related changes link, which can track pages to any of the sections on the page. Or one could watchlist any specific page someone is interested in tracking.

LOGO stuff.

Vorbis

I'm pretty sure all the audio on Wikiquote uses Vorbis. Certainly, you can use it on any Wikimedia wiki. If you go back through the Main page history on en to about Dec 25 you should find a box at the bottom of the page with 'Happy christmas' or something in lots of different languages in an Ogg Vorbis file! Amgine's admin status is only temporary ..

.. he was granted powers this weekend because of vandalism that happened Saturday. He was given powers to delete the vandalism. He has not gone through the nomination process to become an administrator, so I'd fully expect his "admin status" to revert back to normal user soon. I changed your edit to the admin list on the Admin page back to the way it was (as Eloquence left it) before you added more admins. The other admins are really either honorary or superusers who have admin status because they control the software, but do not particiapte in Wikinews content.-- Davodd | Talk 10:52, 10 Jan 2005 (UTC)

"Wells Fargo Barclays logos merger.jpg"

Some do-gooder will probably delete the nice logo you used for the Wells Fargo story, as fair use isn't allowed on the Commons.

Wikinews is artificially constrained by not having its own repository for fair-use images, as this is crucial for us to use corporate logos in our business reporting, as you have done for this story. The press has every right to use such logos in its reporting.

I'm curious why Wikipedia gets its own image repository for fair-use images but Wikinews does not.

Is there a discussion to settle the licensing of Wikinews somewhere? I see in one spot that it is public domain because the license isn't settled, but the footer implies that this site is GFDL.

Publishing unpublished IRC logs

My views aren't going to change. Jimbo, innocence, sannse and myself object. Anthere and FennecFoxen are likely to once they are online and able to be asked. We're all happy to give interviews when we know we are but it's necessary to have places for informal chat and where confidential or semi-confidenital possible donations and such can be discussed. For that reason, it's not likely that that channel will accept published logs. Jamesday 16:59, 11 Jan 2005 (UTC)

I probably will have to ask - both Innocence and I have the technical capability but we're both involved so asking someone else is better.:) I love the wikinews concept, particularly the public domain licensing, so I'm pretty sad that I've way too much to do elsewhere to participate as fully as I'd like. I'm sorry I didn't see that earlier; my time has been really limited the last couple days (real life after the holiday break.) Does that still need to be accomplished? WeatherChecker issues

I found the problem with Almaty's temperature today: the MetarEntry class was picking up non-temperature entries and parsing them as temperature. This is now fixed (update to get the change). -- IlyaHaykinson 08:05, 15 Jan 2005 (UTC)
