Question on Reverts

Hi again, Doldroms! An IP number had vandalized PJV59's page I noticed, and I reverted it back at 11:14EST. I noticed that you also seemed to revert it back at 11:19EST. Did I do the revert wrong? Just making sure I'm not screwing things up. Thanks!  :-)

Question on Article Saving

Thanks for the welcome, Doldroms. I was shocked and very proud that my small article on the tsunami watch being lifted is at the top of the main page in "breaking news." I attribute this to the luck of timing since I really don't think that Edward R. Murrow has anything to worry about with regard to me!  :-)

I did have one question, sometimes - not always - I notice that when I go to save a page the site asks me to solve an arithmetic problem in order to prove I'm not a bot. While there is certainly nothing wrong with this, is there a way to stop it? I'm assuming I have to go through an account verification process, but looking around the site files I can't see any details regarding what such a process might be.

RAWA report

Dear, what kind of copyright confirmation is needed for the report [11-year-old girl is abducted and raped by Afghan criminals] in which you have put copyrights tag. As you see RAWA [1] is the copyright holder and also it is posted by [User:RAWA] here so where are the violations?? RAWA 08:30, 9 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I want to know the reason why you removed the photo? RAWA 13:12, 9 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hi,

don't know where you're from, but is this story getting a lot of attention you know of? I'm not in the US but I think it could be 2nd lead...

If you agree please put it there or contact me, I'm not sure. Oh and it could use a copy-edit. Thanks in advance.

Dear Doldrums

My above mentioned story slightly differs from the one you mentioned that is posted on Indy Media, making the one I wrote for Wikinews an original.

Regerdless, if you do not see the distinction between the 2 stories, including the difference in titles, I release the story for publication by Wikinews.

Main Digest

Hello Doldrums, I need your help. Could you help me out the seek the purpose of differnt main digests, like India Main Digest available on WikiBureau India and many others. Regards, Shyam (T/C) 16:48, 29 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for clarifications of the functionality about Digests. But I am unable to understand the difficulty associated with the maintainace of these Digests. I think all the portals are based on Dynamic Page List. Once we made all the links based on various categories there is no diificulty to maintain those as I think. May be, I am wrong. May I know about how many days of the publications of a news page, it is protected. Shyam (T/C) 07:43, 30 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

The top message on the protected pages links to WN:ALERT. But there is no such kind of section (Protected pages). So please make the statement correct. Regards, Shyam (T/C) 08:58, 30 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

is due for an update. one of the interviews might fit the bill.  — Doldrums(talk) 20:02, 30 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

There's none that are especially good, IMO. I dunno. And the only ones I truely like are Brampton ones, and that could be perceived as favouring one candidate over another, technically. I dunno, which article do you think? -- Zanimum 20:04, 30 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]
i haven't really looked thro' them much, frankly (astonishing as it may seem, am not all interested in a municipal election half a world away :). if u think one of the articles reads better than others, i think u can go ahead and use it in a lead without worrying about "favouring". if i remember, each interview also listed other candidates and the template-thing links to the other interviews, that shld be good enough. i think original interviews shld be highlighted by putting (atleast some of) them on the lead.  — Doldrums(talk) 20:09, 30 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Really? You're not? ;-) I was more wondering if one ward had a prettier name that the rest, or if you had a favourite number. To be absolutely honest, I've not read most of the interviews myself, just skimmed them for obvious signs of libel, which luckily there was none. -- Zanimum 20:16, 30 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

You have tagged the article with copyright violation which links to economic times. The article is not from this single source. Could the information be deleted which comes from this source and the article again get published? I think it is better to discuss with creater of the article with tagging copyright violation. Shyam (T/C) 20:17, 30 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

It is quite understood to me. But it would be better if I was able to store the content on my personal computer before being deletion. Neways, I try to write the article once again if I get some time for it. But these types of cases de-promote to make contributions to an editor. Could you mail me the content of deleted page? Th Arab world disputes Israel's existence. This has been explained to you repeatedly, as has the fact that the Israeli existence issue must be resolved in articles that mention the Jewish state together with "Arabs". You clearly have some strong feelings about Israel's existence, so please do not start edit warring on this article. Thanks. PVJ(Talk)(Articles I have written) 14:00, 1 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Wow

Hi, hope I'm not pestering you, but you gave me most support on the Korean Interview article. I just wanted to say I was really amazed today when I saw that the article had been translated into Chinese and Japanese :D! Its like, people from around half the world (they were far closer not long ago of course:D) and completely strange to me picked up and translated this story, and I can't understand a word of what they've written *big grin*. That feels really great :). I'll be knocking together a "textbook" on putting together questionaires and conducting polls sometime (maybe on wikibooks? ), and I'll definetly tell you when its amounted to anything. Many kind regards, Sean Heron 19:38, 3 November 2006 (UTC) P.S. I'm still amazed at the ammount of effort you put into the article :)[reply]

Thanks for fixing but if we could provide source in the correction template, it would be appericiable. Shyam (T/C) 19:25, 8 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]
No, it is not fixed correctly. I think the date of opposition by BJP was March 1 according to this source. Then MCD passed the resolution on March 13. Please correct the date. Providing the source could be more helpful. Shyam (T/C) 19:35, 8 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, you are correct. The ref#5 dictates the opposition of proposal by BJP. Thanks, it is fixed now. Sorry for bothering you. Shyam (T/C) 19:39, 8 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks Doldrums

I apprciate your advice about copyrighting. I thought I had been OK quoting what had been said in court verbatim - indeed, I had thought it would be wrong to do otherwise. And giving several quotes did make it look like a bit of a copy. It had several sources. The rewritten piece has now been shunted into 'articles' and I wonder what happens next? Sorry - I have looked at it again in the 'articles' section and see I should say its 'ready' - I suppose one gets used to how the thing works sooner or later!

Your comments are very much appreciated. And, tell ya' what... (that is, if you have no objection) mark-up is not my strong suit. As such, sometimes I've had a devil of a time getting it to "look pretty." Sometimes, I simply hope that someone else will find-n-fix it. While I am making some progress and improvements, I confess to needing some gentle help in that area. I'd very much appreciate your and others help in mark-up. Portugal should be added in the article as the country was affected by the shortcut, it's a mistake to revert this correction.

==Intervention Request== "Jezebel of Jazz," Anita O'Day dead at 87

Hi again!

I am requesting your intercession on a feature length article which I composed, published and entitled ""Jezebel of Jazz," Anita O'Day dead at 87." (http://en.wikinews.org/wiki/%22Jezebel_of_Jazz%22_Anita_O%27Day_dies_aged_87)

Apparently, someone thought a headline with errors in grammar and verb tense use was more appropriate, and changed it.

Though I requested use of discussion, and posted on the discussion page, there was no response. I requested collaboration and remain open to the same. So, hearing none, I reverted it. Then, the un'fun' began.

And though I have written for numerous years, and have made contributions to Wikipedia and Wikinews, I have yet to be granted any administrative capability. Strange, yes?

At any rate, please examine my article and let me know your thoughts. Thanks much! Mink Butler Davenport 00:05, 25 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Revamp Main Page

I propose that the front page be revamped to display more articles at any one time and should displya categories like any news site. In order to sustain people's interest in the project, we need plenty of updates all the time and that featured main page stories be categorily arranged. Please check normal news sites such as googlenews for an idea on what I am saying. The revamp would include the following changed.

  • More stories on the homepage.
  • Bigger Picture for main story.
  • News Categories
  • Change title fonts back to Arial.
  • Change logo to resemble Wikipedia's main logo.

Please discuss this matter. TownCrier 01:24, 27 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]
