[edit] Welcome
Drawat123, welcome to Wikinews! Thank you for your contributions; I hope you like the place and decide to stay. Here are a few good links for newcomers:
Our key policies - if you read anything, read these!
- Wikinews:Neutral point of view - tell every side to a story in a fair and balanced way
- Wikinews:Cite sources - everything in a Wikinews article must be sourced
Here a few pointers to help you get to know Wikinews:
- Wikinews:Introduction - overview of the site
- Wikinews:Writing an article - how to write and publish a complete article
- Wikinews:Content guide - what's suitable for Wikinews
- Wikinews:Contents - the contents page.
There are always things to do on Wikinews:
- Existing articles need expanding and checking for spelling and mistakes
- The front page lead articles often need updating
- Developing stories need finishing and publishing
- Discussions need your input
- And of course, stories need writing!
By the way, you can sign your name on Talk pages using four tildes (~~~~), which produces your name and the current date. If you have any questions, you can ask them at the water cooler or to anyone on the Welcommittee, or ask me on my Talk page. Again, welcome!
[edit] Guidelines
Now that you have the above guidelines, there's a bit to read that might help you tidy up your earlier contributions. --Brian McNeil / talk 20:10, 14 September 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Welcome!
Hi there!
On top of what Brian has given you above, it may also be useful for you to know that Wikinews cannot host copyrighted articles, such as direct copy & pastes from another news website. Please rewrite these articles in your own words using a multitude of sources in order to help Wikinews become a good news source.
Thank you for your contributions so far, if you clean them up slightly then they will be ready for publishing! If you need any help, please do not hesitate to contact me! --Skenmy(talk)|(ideas) 20:12, 14 September 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Citizen journalism article
Wikinews is not a blog. articles in wikinews must report current news events, in a neutral and unbiased way. Wikinews is not a place to host press release and other publicity material. please read the content and style guidelines pointed out above and write articles conforming to them. articles which do not are liable to be deleted. [edit] Requested Help
In response to your request for help on my talk page, I have a few suggestions for you.
- Use Wikinews to report current news arther than press releases. You can write a news article based on a press release if you so wish to!
- Follow the Style Guide when writing a news article. Develop your own style, but use that as a reference when writing.
- And don't be afraid to ask for help! We are always looking for new editors, and if you need help getting started, or even 100 articles in, you can always ask me or anyone on the Welcommittee - or even an administrator!
Welcome to Wikinews! --Skenmy(talk)|(ideas) 15:23, 18 September 2006 (UTC)
