Here a few pointers to help you get to know Wikinews:

There are always things to do on Wikinews:

By the way, you can sign your name on Talk pages using four tildes (~~~~), which produces your name and the current date. If you have any questions, you can ask them at the water cooler or to anyone on the Welcommittee, or ask me on my Talk page. Again, welcome!

Can you go back and look at the last paragraph of this? There is a numerical error in it, it cites 3.2 million hectares as the amount of forest in 1995, states one fifth was destroyed, yet cites the amount destroyed as 2.5 million hectares. Four fifths of 3.2 is 2.5, so it should perhaps state that only one fifth remain, or the amount destroyed is wrong.

Once it's fixed, can you either let me know on my talk page, or ask for the article to be protected on WN:ALERT? Thanks! --Brian McNeil / talk 16:20, 29 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for the quick response, the article is now protected and part of Wikinews' archive. --Brian McNeil / talk 22:23, 29 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

East timor article[edit]

Thanks for taking an interest and contributing to Wikinews. But there is a problem with the article on Portuguese deployment in East Timor that u created - the text of the article closely follows the text of its sources. an article created in this way can be a copyright infringement, and Wikinews policy is to erase such even if they are excellent article ideas. A better way to get an article on an exciting subject published here is to write an original article following the guidelines described in writing an article, or to write a brief explanation of the subject and include the url address of articles or websites to use as sources. in particular, it is important to use the information in the sources, but write the article in your own words. Thanks again! — Doldrums(talk) 06:44, 8 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
