[edit] Ten April Fool's pranks of 2009

Noticed you were also helping with wikinews main page for April Fool's. I added wikipedia pranks and the archived main page for wikipedia April Fool's 2009 anniversaries, FA, DYK, wikipedia type news, is there an archive of wikinews news main page? Kind Regards SriMesh | talk 21:48, 2 April 2009 (UTC)

[edit] Gold mine

Would you mind placing the gold mine article on another lead and put the Guiding Light lead back up? I only say that because it's been the #2 top-read story every hour since it's been published so clearly there isn't a lack of demand for people reading it. Mike Halterman (talk) 22:26, 2 April 2009 (UTC)

[edit] Thanks

wink ThanksThanks Dear for your welcome message. I am sure I will slowly learn how to and what to edit. Thanks again for encouraging. Dineshjk (talk) 17:30, 3 April 2009 (UTC)

[edit] Alaska Infobox

Funny I see you create it. I don't recall the article, but I tried and tried different variations of an infobox a few days ago. And I didn't think to check if there even was one. Good eye :-D DragonFire1024 (Talk to the Dragon) 01:00, 4 April 2009 (UTC)

[edit] So...am I out of the writing contest?

I had thought that I could use my free pass for April 3, but looking back at the rules now that I'm seemingly out, I guess I can only do that if I wrote more than one article the previous day? Or something? Ah well, in any event, it was fun. :D — Hunter Kahn (contribs) 05:04, 4 April 2009 (UTC)

  • That's not necessary; you're right about the rules, I just misunderstood. And please don't misunderstand, I wasn't trying to be a jerk and weasel my way back into the contest! lol. Thanks for organizing that and letting me participate, I had a good time! — Hunter Kahn (contribs) 14:16, 4 April 2009 (UTC)

[edit] Re: At least 3 police officers killed in Pittsburgh shootings

A "Validation" is when I mark the article as "Accurate" based on the sources and information available. It is something that I do - it is the equivalent of a sighting, plus the confirmation that I really have thoroughly checked the article. Sighting will only work when the article is changed again, though. Not sure why it isn't working for you, to be honest, DragonFire1024 has since sighted the article... --Skenmy talk 22:19, 4 April 2009 (UTC)

A lot of people don't actually check the article as thoroughly as I would expect them to for a Validation, just enough for a sighting (basic fact checking, npov, style, newsworthyness, etc). They do pretty much the same thing. --Skenmy talk 22:35, 4 April 2009 (UTC)

[edit] Archiving user talk page

There is a bot for user talk page archiving - check the code on my userpage. --Brian McNeil / talk 23:00, 5 April 2009 (UTC)

Thanks, I'll take a look at it. ♪ Tempodivalse ♪ 23:09, 5 April 2009 (UTC)

[edit] Grossly offensive usernames - or those containing personal information

Do not entertain the creators of such usernames in any way, they are generally attacking administrators, checkusers, and stewards who have stomped on them somewhere. Templating their talk page with an 'unacceptable username' warning just puts the obscenity or slander into recent changes again. By all means, block, but alert a checkuser or steward - these usernames can be hidden in the user creation log, the underlying IP is likely a proxy or Tor node, and getting the information shared on the checkuser mailing list will get them zapped globally and other wikis forewarned. --Brian McNeil / talk 14:06, 7 April 2009 (UTC)

[edit] Contest

Thank you for your note. It really has taken me by surprise! Oh my goodness. I really learned a lot by contributing articles, (and then improving articles :-), and also by reading articles of others for style, content and format. Your articles indeed are a great value to wikinews, and your contest seemed to provide an additional fun way to contribute to wikinews. There are several editors who provide so much to wikinews in various ways. SriMesh | talk 18:26, 7 April 2009 (UTC)

[edit] About G20 death

This is all over the news. I just saw it on TV. The man wasn't protesting, and he fell unconscious after being hit by a police officer, dying moments later. The media is all over the case, with several people commenting on the police actions. The source of interest of this event has changed. The article as it is, is false. There must be something we can do. If nothing else, we should create a new article. This IS NOT a minor update. A protester didn't collapse at a G20 protest. http://en.wikinews.org/wiki/April_20th:_10_years_ago:_COLUMBINE_Massacre

I would really appreciate it.

hey, i never wrote anything bias. there are no opinions. The style is fine. Can't it just be published. It has to be published today. it will be useless tomorow.

DELETE MY ARTICLE!! YOU ARE RIGHT! NEXT TIME I HAVE TO WRITE DIFFERENTLY! THANKS FOR THE TIPS. I AM NEW HERE AND DIDN'T KNOW MUCH! —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 09akoguc (talkcontribs)

"Broadcast reports don't usually qualify as OR". Could you check and see if there is official policy on this? I have always thought that they were, but I want to get this article fleshed out so I don't have time now. Thanks, Calebrw (talk) 22:42, 26 April 2009 (UTC)

[edit] Re: 09akoguc (talk · contribs)

The user has an, allebit short, block history. The rate at which the links were appearing was high, and the block was pre-emptive originally. The user, however, seems riled about something, or almost "too eager" to contribute to the extent that he is disrupting the site. This is why I shortened the original block from 48 hours to 24 hours. --Skenmy talk 20:41, 27 April 2009 (UTC)
