[edit] Thank you and question

Thanks for the nice welcome message!

As (and although) you seem to be a celebrity here in wikinews I dare to ask a question: Do you think that a much improved version of the DynamicPageList extension could be beneficial for this wiki? It could (for example) find articles which cite certain sources, it could create lists which contain the first two sentences of matching articles etc.... See my homepage for details. Wish you a good night! -- Algorithmix (talk) 21:45, 17 June 2009 (UTC)

[edit] Souces

Come on now Tempo, you know that the sources should be author: xxx and yyy, Associated Press and the publisher is Google News. Calebrw (talk) 16:05, 18 June 2009 (UTC)

Oh, that's right. I got confused about what parameter was correct. Thanks for the reminder. Tempodivalse [talk] 16:07, 18 June 2009 (UTC)
Not a problem. Calebrw (talk) 16:23, 18 June 2009 (UTC)

Breaking News: Jetliner lands safely after pilot dies

Can't write it, but you're not doing anything, right? Calebrw (talk) 16:21, 18 June 2009 (UTC)

I'm on it. Expect an article within the next few minutes. Tempodivalse [talk] 16:24, 18 June 2009 (UTC)
Done See Passenger jet lands safely at Newark Airport after pilot dies. A review would be appreciated. I'll continue to expand the article. Tempodivalse [talk] 16:28, 18 June 2009 (UTC)
Thanks. Calebrw (talk) 16:30, 18 June 2009 (UTC)
You're welcome. Smile.png Tempodivalse [talk] 16:31, 18 June 2009 (UTC)
Looks like Vector did a review, just waiting for the {{publish}} to be added. Talk about collaboration. Calebrw (talk) 16:34, 18 June 2009 (UTC)
Boy, that was a fast review! Great collaboration. It appears the story's been published and sighted, should be on the front page now. Thanks for the heads-up. Tempodivalse [talk] 16:35, 18 June 2009 (UTC)
Not a problem. Got a picture up on the article page now. Now the best, so I don't know if it belongs on the front page, but maybe a better file photo of w:Boeing 777. Calebrw (talk) 16:46, 18 June 2009 (UTC)

[edit] Template:Disasters and accidents

I dunno, but every time I see that picture of the aeroplane exploding I can't help wondering whether it's in entirely good taste, especially when the template ends up being used in articles about planes, whether they are exploding or not. Isn't there a less emotive, or less violent, picture we could use to represent a disaster? Maybe a tornado or something? --128.243.253.102 (talk) 07:37, 19 June 2009 (UTC)

Replied at User talk:128.243.253.102. Tempodivalse [talk] 13:40, 19 June 2009 (UTC)
Glad you agree, yet I was kind of hoping you'd have a suggestion, because I can't think or find anything distinctly better either! I'm thinking a natural disaster would be the most tasteful as they as they mostly cause destruction rather than loss of life, like a hurricane. Something like this, only clearer. I'll keep looking. --128.243.253.113 (talk) 15:35, 19 June 2009 (UTC)
Someone changed it to a tornado on {{Disasters and accidents}} this morning. --Brian McNeil / talk 15:40, 19 June 2009 (UTC)
There was nothing wrong with the old picture, but the new one is better. I'm tempted to revert though, just because I don't like being bullied by the PC crowd. PCness is *not* a replacement for compassion, understanding, or kindness. It is a disease that causes some nasty asshat behaviour, and nothing more:P. Gopher65talk 19:13, 19 June 2009 (UTC)
Yeah I changed it having seen this & the picture and agreeing. I don't think it's really PC, it's just a bit distasteful & also, wasn't that great a picture-the new one is OK, but if anyone can find a better one, go for it! Dotty••| 19:22, 19 June 2009 (UTC)
Aha, yes, that's much better in my opinion. Thanks a lot Dot. --128.243.253.114 (talk) 06:25, 20 June 2009 (UTC)

[edit] Editor status

Thanks for giving me it-I can't for the life of me find where to find the revision id? Probably me being very stupid! Dotty••| 15:38, 19 June 2009 (UTC)

Go to page history, select the top revision, and the id is in the URL. --Brian McNeil / talk 15:39, 19 June 2009 (UTC)
Brianmc is correct, it's in the url. It is a bit tricky if you don't know where to look. (I also replied at your talk) Tempodivalse [talk] 15:41, 19 June 2009 (UTC)

[edit] Editprotected

Could you edit the info on the peerreviewed template to clarify the oldid number is in the url to help people like me!? Dotty••| 19:01, 19 June 2009 (UTC)

Done Is this okay? Tempodivalse [talk] 19:05, 19 June 2009 (UTC)
Yeah just helps, thanks! Dotty••| 19:21, 19 June 2009 (UTC)

Tempodivalse,

Would you mind doing a peer review for the article above?

Thanks. --WNewsReporter (talk) 22:14, 19 June 2009 (UTC)

unfortunately, I don't have much time at the moment, but I'll take a look at the article later when I get a chance. Tempodivalse [talk] 22:19, 19 June 2009 (UTC)
I just added Obama's response. Thanks for the suggestion. --WNewsReporter (talk) 22:53, 19 June 2009 (UTC)

[edit] Quick request

Hey. I've taken a stab at my first article: Tropical depression dissipates, impacts Mexico. Could you help me with publishing/reviewing/whatnot? Thanks! –Juliancolton | Talk 04:15, 20 June 2009 (UTC)

Great, good to hear. Just one question: are contractions preferred or discouraged within "news style" prose? –Juliancolton | Talk 17:07, 20 June 2009 (UTC)

[edit] Wikinews interviews former Republican U.S. Senator Bob Smith on his latest run for office

Tempodivalse,

Would you mind doing a peer review for the article above?

Thanks. --WNewsReporter (talk) 06:01, 21 June 2009 (UTC)

I don't have very much time, so I probably won't be able to do a review, sorry. Hopefully someone else will review it, though. Tempodivalse [talk] 13:02, 21 June 2009 (UTC)

[edit] Wikinews:Flagged revisions/Requests for permissions

Tempo, i've seem the page Wikinews:Flagged revisions/Requests for permissions but i didn't see the local policy to give the Editor/Reviewer status. Who can be an Editor or Reviewer here? Maybe I'll use your answer to make a proposal in pt@wikinews. Vitorbraziledit talk 03:48, 26 June 2009 (UTC)

(Sorry for the late response, i was away for a long time and didn't check this page.) The policy for Editor status is written at WN:FRRFP, it's the last paragraph before the votes section (Requests will generally stay open for a minimum of 48 hours, after which an administrator will read the comments made by other users and decide whether or not to give out the flag.). As far as who can run, anyone can apply for the position, but usually only users who have been around for a few days and have developed trust with the community will be granted the tool. Hope this answers your question. Tempodivalse [talk] 22:27, 7 August 2009 (UTC)

[edit] Template:Wikinewslang

Hi - I just noticed your edit at the Template:Wikinewslang regarding the addition of Sindhi language. I was wondering whether the word Sindhi "सिन्धी" written in Devanagari script should be replaced by the word Sindhi "سنڌي" in Arabic script. The reason justifying this points to the fact that the current version of Sindhi Wikinews is actually written in Arabic script; implying the Devanagari paraphrase would be misleading as well as factually incorrect. Cheers Ali Rana (talk) 08:36, 12 August 2009 (UTC)

That makes sense. I've changed the scripts accordingly, thanks for pointing this out. Cheers Tempodivalse [talk] 13:01, 12 August 2009 (UTC)

[edit] Review 2009 Shri Shyam Bhajan Amritvarsha held in Hyderabad

Hi Tempodivalse, could you get some time to re-review the article. Many thanks, Shyam (T/C) 18:38, 17 August 2009 (UTC)

I would have gladly done another review, but as I've just made some significant changes to the article, I might not qualify as an uninvolved editor (see WN:REVIEW), so it might be better to let someone less involved with the creation of the article do a review. (The story looks better now, though.) Cheers, Tempodivalse [talk] 18:58, 17 August 2009 (UTC)
Thanks, your work is much appreciated. Shyam (T/C) 19:01, 17 August 2009 (UTC)

[edit] Lockerbie bombing appeal dropped

Hi Tempo. I don't like doing this, especially when you were good enough to review my other article, but could you possibly review the one above? I want to avoid the article coming too late when people have already seen the news and lost interest, as there is OR in this one. Blood Red Sandman (Talk) (Contribs) 13:43, 18 August 2009 (UTC)

Done Tempodivalse [talk] 14:08, 18 August 2009 (UTC)

[edit] User talk:Jimandaz

In addition to welcoming users such as this one, might also be a good idea to leave them a note/warning about using this site for spamming, copyvio, inserting press releases, advertising-only purposes, etc. Cirt (talk) 08:20, 20 August 2009 (UTC)

Ok, I'll do that in the future. I didn't mention anything this time because I didn't check the user's contributions before welcoming (I was just seeing which users with edits still had red-linked talk pages and welcomed those). Tempodivalse [talk] 13:24, 20 August 2009 (UTC)

I have read your comment. Please note that we are the owner of JimAndaz.com site and hence the text is reproduce from the same site. Please do let us know whether we need to edit or it will publish as it is? —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Jimandaz (talkcontribs)

[edit] One more comment

I just placed the flag on the talk of that Scientology article again (due to an issue with questions 18/19, which I just got to in the process of reading); I don't know if you'll be able to help given it's an acronymic issue, but I'd appreciate a look!  ;) Thanks for your time and consideration, Peace and Passion (talk) 19:26, 23 August 2009 (UTC)

Replied. Thanks for the heads up. Tempodivalse [talk] 19:36, 23 August 2009 (UTC)

[edit] Main Page

Hey! Rather than revert the main page - is there any chance you could take a screenshot of the "whitespace" you are seeing? I can't replicate it... --Skenmy talk 20:30, 24 August 2009 (UTC)

The whitespace no longer appears in the current revision of the main page, however, it looked like this before I took out the stocks template (note the big empty space below news in pictures in that diff). Tempodivalse [talk] 20:34, 24 August 2009 (UTC)
Note the "i can't replicate it" - please take a screenshot. --Skenmy talk 20:35, 24 August 2009 (UTC)
Oh, sorry, I misunderstood. I thought you were talking about the current page revision. Tempodivalse [talk] 20:43, 24 August 2009 (UTC)
Seems fine to me. –Juliancolton | Talk 20:38, 24 August 2009 (UTC)
I see exactly what Julian sees. I'm going to revert your removal as that is leaving nasty whitespace for me and it seems others :P --Skenmy talk 20:47, 24 August 2009 (UTC)
OK, go ahead and revert it for now. Right now I'm trying to figure out how to take a screen shot and upload it here. Tempodivalse [talk] 20:48, 24 August 2009 (UTC)

(outdent) Okay, here it is: File:Mainpagewhitespace.jpg. I'm suspecting this is a browser problem. Tempodivalse [talk] 20:54, 24 August 2009 (UTC)

What's your browser, it's version, and your screen resolution? Also, sorry to be a pain, but a whole page screenshot would have been better... --Skenmy talk 20:55, 24 August 2009 (UTC)
I have Firefox 3.5 and a 768x1024 resolution, if it helps anything (the widescreen monitor is probably part of the problem). I'll post at Talk:Main Page asking if anyone else has this problem. I'll try to upload another screenshot later (it's rather time-consuming as I'm haven't figured out how to do it properly). Tempodivalse [talk] 22:17, 24 August 2009 (UTC)
Hey Tempo. As part of a general cleanup, I was wondering if you could add a proper license to the screenshot, so it will get categorized automatically? Thanks. Cheers, Van der Hoorn (talkcontribs) 12:59, 25 August 2009 (UTC)
Done I added {{screen shot}}. Thanks for the suggestion. Tempodivalse [talk] 13:08, 25 August 2009 (UTC)

@Skenmy: I've uploaded a full-screen screenshot, just as requested: File:Mainpagewhitespace2.jpg. Tempodivalse [talk] 13:14, 25 August 2009 (UTC)

[edit] Search called off for boy swept out to sea

This article isn't abandoned. I just made a minor edit to it yesterday, and left a note on the talkpage that all copyvio issues were taken care of. Drew R. Smith (talk) 14:16, 26 August 2009 (UTC)

Oh, sorry, I didn't notice your edit. I've now removed the abandoned tag, feel free to re-add {{review}}. Tempodivalse [talk] 15:18, 26 August 2009 (UTC)

[edit] Archive is supposed to be 7 days

I know you're going crazy and having fun, but technically you should wait till an article has been published for 7 days before archiving. I've noticed a few that are as short as 5 days that you've done. It's not a big deal, but I figured I'd mention it. --ShakataGaNai ^_^ 00:03, 27 August 2009 (UTC)

Oh, okay. Thanks for the reminder, I'll try to make sure all articles I archive are at least a week old next time I do it. Cheers Tempodivalse [talk] 00:08, 27 August 2009 (UTC)

[edit] AutoWelcome

I'm not sure why you want to welcome every new user... but there is a much easier way of doing that. [1] Should we perhaps request that be turned on? --ShakataGaNai ^_^ 18:17, 3 September 2009 (UTC)

That's an interesting idea. I try to welcome new users, even if they don't have any edits yet, because I think it helps to encourage them to contribute to the project. However, if we had a bot do it automatically (sort of like what Commons does?), that would be quite a bit easier. I'd support implementing such a feature. Tempodivalse [talk] 18:21, 3 September 2009 (UTC)
Yes. Thats what commons does. Ok, I'll create a thingy on WC for speedy supports. --ShakataGaNai ^_^ 18:23, 3 September 2009 (UTC)

Eff Why Eye. In the mean time you can use the "User Message" Gadget found in your local "My Preferences" to make welcoming a 1 click affair (along with many other user talk page messages) --ShakataGaNai ^_^ 01:42, 6 September 2009 (UTC)

[edit] Current Lead 4 on main page

Just a little thing, an anon pointed out on the main page talk that the lead for the US unemployment figures was shown with a picture of a UK bank. I've changed it to something I think is more appropriate. --Brian McNeil / talk 11:16, 5 September 2009 (UTC)
