This is the most useless template. Same effect can be achieved by doing this: [[w:blah|]] (Only difference is that will take out brackets too as well as interwiki namespace). Useless template, possible avenue for high impact vandalism, transcluding useless things is supposedly not good for preformance reasons, lets kill it. Bawolff ☺☻

- Comment. Initially, I could not find a similar text from the suggested source, but it is here, in the same site. The Wikinews article and the chrisbrownweb.com both cites WENN as the source. My best guess about WENN is that it is http://wenn.com, a commercial news organization. Both are two-paragraph long, and the first paragraph is quite similar and the second is the same (basically because it is mostly a quote.) I suppose WENN is http://wenn.com, a commercial business company. Without having an access to the original article, I cannot tell if there is a possibility that this could be a fair use. If the original article was very long, and the Wikinews and chrisbrownweb used only a part of it, there might be some more room for defense.. In short, I am not sure. - Comment. I took a look at edit history, and found that the problem "editorial clean-up tag" cites is addressed in the next edit, and it seems publishable. The article was indeed tagged as "published." So it seems appropriate to remove the clean-up tag and publish/archive. The only problem I can think of is that no small part of the article might come from Council of Europe's summary without an attribution. (Again, see this edit [1] to compare the quoted summary and the article's main text.) Is there a potential copyright problem here? Or is the summary copyright-free? I digged around and found copyright statement on the Council's Disclaimer page. Note the restriction on any commercial usage and requirement for attribution. The summary of the Treaty quoted, which is not listed as one of sources, is available here. And I see that all the three paragraphs are quoted in the earlier version of the article. Lack of proper attribution, combined with our license (Creative Commons Attribution 2.5 with attribution to Wikinews, without restriction on commercial use), it goes against their stated copyright policy. What's left is a fair use defense. I am not sure about that, either. And I wonder if we should take into account that it is an european organization, and we should better consider their copyright law exceptions and restrictions. Tomos 04:01, 21 August 2006 (UTC)

- Keep. I disagree. YouTube is literally broadcasting. Whatever license that YouTube has over the uploaded content (a process which seems to surrender the uploader's rights) seems to be of the kind that on can freely quote from. I can't see any difference between these two situations: 1) "Politician A said he is against abortion" where the source is a TV interview; and 2) "Peter said he is 78 years old and likes to bitch about things" where the source is his YouTube videos. Anyway, this is not real news anyway only Cat:wacky, so I can't waste any more time researching the particulars in a fight for this article. --SVTCobra 22:39, 15 August 2006 (UTC)

- to SVTCobra - Quoting is a type of fair use, if properly done, under the U.S. copyright law, as far as I am aware. It will bring a copyright issue if unproperly done. But the issue here is the potential infringement of Reuters. Tomos 12:16, 16 August 2006 (UTC)

- Delete. I've compared the first version of the Wikinews' article with Reuter's. Word-to-word matches are quite limited throughout the article. The first sentence of the Wikinews' article is original. So is the 5th paragraph describing the number of videos posted and # of views so far. For other parts of the Wikinews article, I could find matching contents in the Reuter article. There are 5 paragraphs of the Reuters, or approx. 1/3 of it, that are not in Wikinews. Combined, Wikinews uses no small portion for a competing purpose, and with relatively little added-value. If other articles on this subject dealt with more or less the same sets of facts and organization, perhaps it would not be a problem. I checked Times Online and Mumbai Mirror. Their articles does not look like the one here. Although our activity is non-commercial, I am afraid that is not a strong enough reason for fair use defense. But I am not a lawyer, and I could well be wrong. Tomos 01:51, 16 August 2006 (UTC)

topic with unclear focus, possibly pov. Energy as a subcat of cat:biz/econ is a better alternative. Doldrums 10:10, 14 August 2006 (UTC)
- I concur. —
this is messedrocker(talk)10:11, 14 August 2006 (UTC) - Keep - I created this category, so of course I am biased. However, there is a growing volume of news about a developing energy crisis, particularly related to the price of oil, but also to other aspects such as supply of oil and natural gas, mitigation of greenhouse gas emissions, growing electricity demand, and a perceived need for a resurgance of nuclear energy. The mainstream media appear to be seeing a developing energy crisis, so it should be able to stand as an Issues sub-category on its own. Rosko 14:05, 14 August 2006 (UTC)
- the trouble is that calling it a "crisis" would be pov, unless there is a _consensus_ in the real world that it is a crisis, and i don't think that such a consensus exists. this deletion request is not to downplay the significance of news about energy source, but to fix the pov problem, hence my suggested alternative. Doldrums 04:37, 15 August 2006 (UTC)
- Perhaps then making it just Energy, as you suggest, but not as a sub-category of Bus+Econ. There are aspects of energy-related news that are more Sci/Tech related than Econ, but are still of relevence to those interested in Energy per se. Would you accept an Energy sub-cat to Issues? Rosko 06:16, 15 August 2006 (UTC)
- in wikipedia, we can have energy as a subcat of biz/econ, enviroment and perhaps even politics/conflicts, sci-tech. if wikinews cats also allows auch "multiple inheritence" then we can use the same. note that there is no cat:Issues (probably becoz almost everything in wikinews would potentially have to be included in it).
- Actually, there is a cat:Issues, of which econ/bus and sci/tech are sub-cats. However, what you say about Energy being a sub-cat of multiple sub-cats could work. I shall go do it now! Rosko 08:49, 15 August 2006 (UTC)
- Delete, and re-create as suggested by Doldrums above. I suggest adding an infobox about the energy crisis instead, which could include some critical stats and latest contents of the new category. -- IlyaHaykinson 02:44, 15 August 2006 (UTC)

- Delete. I compared the first version of the article with the suggested external source, an AP article. For the first 12 paragraphs, I see virtually the same text in the AP article. There are a few differences, but not many. There two paragraphs in the AP article that I do not see in the Wikinews article. At the end of the Wikinews article, I see the last three paragraphs are not in the AP articles. I knew AP runs multiple versions of the same story with slightly different texts, so I checked if I could find another story from AP with those texts. I could. [2]. The first version of the Wikinews article indeed seems to match word by word with this AP story. Another strong indication that this is a copy-and-paste of an AP story is that the beginning of the Wikinews article says it is by "Pete Yost," the reporter of the AP article. Combined, it seems that Wikinews article is a reproduction of the AP article, and a copyvio. Tomos 15:38, 14 August 2006 (UTC)

This is currently a redirect. The page title of this redirect indicates something counter-factual - an involvement of the company Blogger.com behind the web site Liverpool Evil Cabal. I could find very similar sentenses for the remaining 4 sentenses. I see little added value (or "transformative"-ness) in this article's use of the source article, and it uses rather important part of the source, so I am inclined to find it difficult to defend it as a fair use. But I am not an expert, and I could be wrong. Tomos 13:37, 10 August 2006 (UTC)

- Delete - Some anonymous user claims to have an exclusive interview with a political candidates ex-wife? And won't produce the transcript? Come on. 72.139.185.19 07:12, 2 August 2006 (UTC)
- Delete - There's been a very vocal minority of users that have been adding as much negative slant to the Michael Ignatieff article as possible. It strikes me that this article is more of the same. Unless the anonymous reporter can send a transcript and/or audio file to be verified, there's really no reason this article should exist. And there's certainly no reason anyone should be citing it. 198.20.41.74 18:18, 2 August 2006 (UTC)

- Delete Possibly defamatory/libellous material. Also yellow journalism. I understand this article has already been put up for deletion and the request was archived after the anonymous author sent in an audio file. However, I am dubious about the article's legitimacy.
The author claims that the interviewee lives in London however, as far as I can determine, the phone number the anonymous reporter gives for her has a Sheffield area code. Checking BT.com there is no Susan Barrowclough in Sheffield, at least not one with a listed number. The article is possibly slanderous and defamatory and is aimed at the frontrunning candidate for the leadership of the Liberal Party of Canada - it is possible it is a "dirty trick" by a rival camp or enemy of the candidateand the inconsistencies in regards to the phone number and purported location of Ms. Barrowclough make me suspicious. - Delete the article as it stands does not report a news event or phenomenon, is pov, is unsourced. i see no way to turn this into a publishable article. yes, wikinews does need more OR and more interviews, but they need to follow the required processes a heck of a lot more than this one has, and the result shld be news - should enlighten readers on something they want to & need to know about - something which, in my view, this article doesn't. - Comment The prior deletion request had one keep vote that was valid, made at much urging from anonymous editors. The article certainly isn't in a publishable state, it is full of inline links to sources that are not direct links to articles but rely on the reader finding whatever it was that was relevant. Sources go in the sources section, not in the middle of articles where readers can be encouraged to leave the site. --Brian McNeil / talk 19:31, 7 August 2006 (UTC)

- Addendum to addendumBrian McNeil is mistaken about the number of valid "keep" votes before; there were 3, not 1; Since he correctly states the time for the 1st request should be 7 days instead of 1, and assuming we do not wish to have 2 requests going on simultaneusly, I have transferred the edits from the first request and included them above. 64.229.64.116 20:31, 7 August 2006 (UTC)

- Comment; There seems to be no good reason to delete while the article is not published and still being worked on. It just seems as if there is a rush to censorship pressure regarding this interview from people who are not usually on wikinews. I am actually on wikinews a lot myself (so hopefully you can count this as a valid vote) but I decided to use an anon signature for this article after received harrassing anonymous telephone calls, including threats, within an hour of when I gave my name and phone # to the Ignatieff staff (I was calling them for a response to Barrowclough's comments). Also, It is not my fault that the 5 administrators I have sent the audiofile to have not responded. 64.229.64.116 20:43, 7 August 2006 (UTC)

Abandoned, not news. --R2b2 23:55, 2 August 2006 (UTC)
- Delete. This one is pretty problematic. The entire text is a quote from Washington Post's article, and it is indicated so in the article. Yet the link goes elsewhere (which is quite misleading to say the least), a site called golnews. The linked page does not have a link to the WaPo article, either. I have read a case in which good faith is considered a factor in determining if a use is fair use. This practice reminds me of that (see, for example, Harper & Row v. Nation Enterprises). On top of that, it seems abondoned before making into a full article. Tomos 07:09, 4 August 2006 (UTC)

The article's original version and the latter half of the source cited are substantially similar. The copyright notice of the source and "editor's note" at the beginning of the text of the source article indicates that it is a copy of a news paper article, fully copyrighted. The article was first posted on the web overthere "05:23am (Mla time) July 26, 2006" which translates 21:23 UTC July 25. And the original Wikinews post is times stamped as "10:31, 27 July." So I think that there is little reason to think that this is a post by a copyright holder or they took the Wikinews article. Finally, I thought about fair use (and I am not a lawyer), but it seemed that some factors work against fair use defense, namely - (1) the Wikinews article does not add something new but virtually re-arrange a portion of the cited source, (2) substantial portion and parts of the source article is in the Wikinews' original version.
These things combined, I thought I should worry about potential copyright violation.
Additionally, I just checked the Philippines' Intellectual Property Code seems to have a fair use provision very similar to that of the U.S. See sec.185 (p.86) here, which was cited in w:en:Philippine_copyright_law at least on the level of statutory language.

These are unused corporate logos. I compiled the list from Special:Unusedimages. User:Sawran uploaded them in case some stories come up. Neither Wikinews:Fair_use_policy, MediaWiki:Uploadtext nor Wikinews:Image_use_policy says anything on such a use, but I think the fact that image is not used means that it is not used for a journalistic purpose, at least yet. And while I have only a little knowledge on the issue, that does not sound like a good fair use ground.
The images are uploaded on December 9. Some images might have been used for some article since deleted. (I don't know).
Amgine inqured about the images to Sawran [4] on Dec 12, and Sawran replied that he was not against deletion if the logos break the fair use policy. [5]
I think fair use policy is not that clearly broken, but it does seem not a fair use. And Sawran has been inactive for a while (Special:Contributions/Sawran). So I thought I would ask your opinion. Should we delete them or not? Thanks.
