Global bots are bots that are automatically approved for all Wikimedia projects. They may be used on Wikinews as long as they have been approved at meta:Steward requests/Bot status and, per Meta policy, the bot can only

  • Fixes double redirects
  • Maintain interlanguage links

The global bot must also have worked successfully on several other Wikimedia wikis prior to becoming a global bot.
