CheckUser Archive: Beginning 11 May 2007

User:212.122.214.173 and User:Prasuk[edit]

Check to see if this IP is used by that user. FellowWiki Newsie 17:40, 13 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

No serious issues with the IP's edits. No checkuser performed as incorrectly formatted and no reason given. --Brian McNeil / talk 23:07, 18 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Page-move vandals[edit]

Please check which IP range or ranges they're using, if the IP or IPs are open proxies block them indef. If they aren't I suggest we block the IP or IPs for six months. FellowWiki Newsie 20:01, 1 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Regardless of the outcome of this checkuser request, I doubt any blocks would be effective as I requested a similar checkuser a while ago and that obviously hasn't stopped the page move vandalism. Clearly this is still a problem, I'm just afraid I doubt anything will be achieved by a checkuser in the longer term. Adambro 20:12, 1 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
All but Steever were the same IP, I have blocked it for 1 month. I'm not sure how to check if it is a proxy, but I kinda doubt it. --Brian McNeil / talk 22:12, 1 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
It's interesting that the IP had some constructive edits, but none under those names. Strange behavior. --David Shankbone 22:15, 1 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
See his Wikipedia talk page. [1] It's a proxy IP. FellowWiki Newsie 22:17, 1 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

User:67.62.76.186[edit]

Done No match, not even same /16. --Brian McNeil / talk 11:09, 28 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

User:71.197.8.9[edit]

DragonFire1024 (Talk to the Dragon) 16:45, 22 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

There's no need for a checkuser on this IP. It's pretty obvious that it's Ed. FellowWiki Newsie 17:05, 22 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Done probable match. --Brian McNeil / talk 17:42, 22 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

User:75.119.23.180[edit]

FellowWiki Newsie 01:04, 28 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Done, no match. -- IlyaHaykinson 01:08, 28 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

User:71.174.243.237[edit]

Both IPs come from Chicago and use same ISP. 71.174.243.237 blanked my user page today. Ed vandalised one of my pages with his old IP. Please check to see if any of these IPs are used by Edbrown, or any other user on Wikinews. FellowWiki Newsie 19:38, 19 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Comment: I agree to check, but I don't think Ed is from Chicago. DragonFire1024 (Talk to the Dragon) 19:42, 19 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I know but he's vandalised one of my pages before. If it isn't him, then I would like to know who it is as it's pretty obvious that the person using the IP (or IPs) knows Wikinews. FellowWiki Newsie 19:52, 19 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I object to this checkuser request on the grounds that User:71.167.62.22 seems completely distinct and innocent here, and it would be an invasion of their privacy. irid:t 13:36, 20 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Hmmm yeah why is this ip being investigated??--MarkTalk to me 15:02, 20 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Because I thought it could be Ed. But DragonFire already requested a checkuser on that IP and there was no match. So, I've removed it. I still have a feeling that 71.172.58.228 could be Ed, but remove it if you disagree and just do a check if 71.174.243.237 is Ed. FellowWiki Newsie 17:03, 20 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

User:Ironiridis[edit]

As a matter of trust, since it was brought up by User:Edbrown05, I'd like a person with the ability to do checkuser to reveal any alternative accounts I've edited under, and all IPs I've edited from, to the extent that CheckUser is able to provide that information. I'm cognizant of the privacy concerns here, and for the sake of trust, I'm fine with exposing my IPs. Apologies if this is an excessive burden on whomever chooses to execute this. irid:t 05:02, 13 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

From what I know of checkuser policy, they cannot reveal the IPs. TheFearow | userpage | contribs 06:07, 13 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I believe that is a matter of privacy. I am waiving my privacy at this point. irid:t 06:08, 13 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
No, its set in stone. You don't own the IPs, and it violates the privacy of any other users who may have edited or viewed from those IPs. TheFearow | userpage | contribs 07:44, 13 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I'll leave Brian to defer to another CU on this. It's quickly becoming a non-issue, however, since Ed seems uninterested, and continues to believe I'm controlling several sockpuppets. irid:t 07:45, 13 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah, it is an annoying policy :p TheFearow | userpage | contribs 08:00, 13 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

User:71.167.62.22 and User:Edbrown05[edit]

Check for block evasion of Edbrown05. Edits are consistent with past IP edits. DragonFire1024 (Talk to the Dragon) 04:31, 8 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

No match --Cspurrier 16:00, 8 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

User:71.172.58.228 and User:Edbrown05[edit]

Please determine whether 71.172.58.228 is Edbrown05. FellowWiki Newsie 02:21, 7 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Done. This request was not properly formatted, but I imagine you wanted to check for block evasion. The IP does not match. -- IlyaHaykinson 02:43, 7 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks. FellowWiki Newsie 02:45, 7 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

User:Gabrielnz and User:Edbrown05[edit]

Looks like possible retaliation against User:Nzgabriel for the block against Ed. Can we verify? irid:t 22:13, 4 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Nothing to do with Ed, user has no edits on IP from other accounts and IP resolves to NZ, not US. --Brian McNeil / talk 22:23, 4 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for checking on that. irid:t 22:24, 4 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

User:Ditsy and User:Edbrown05[edit]

I'd like to determine whether User:Ditsy is a sockpuppet of User:Edbrown05. Ditsy has the same manner of speech/typing that Ed uses, and has taken issue over the same article that he did. Ditsy participated in WN:DR over the article, and also engaged in harassment of User:MessedRocker. irid:t 04:01, 4 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Done match between Disty and Edbrown05 Brian | (Talk) | New Zealand Portal 04:04, 4 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you, Brian. irid:t 04:10, 4 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

User:Bennyboyz3000[edit]

User claims to have an account on Wikipedia under another name, and has claimed to be a editor over there for 2 years. That being the case, I would assume that he would not make an edit like this. I think we might have an imposter. He also did not respond to request on his WP page to verify identity on WN. DragonFire1024 (Talk to the Dragon) 13:09, 24 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I'm not sure how CheckUser will help with this. Adambro 13:09, 25 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
This would have to be a cross-wiki checkuser, by someone with checkuser access on here and enwp (such as a steward) TheFearow 04:40, 31 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Recent page move vandals[edit]

Wikinews has recent been the subject of a number of page move vandalism attacks from a number of different usernames which have of course been blocked. I presume the underlying IP must be different to avoid the blocks but perhaps there is an IP range which is common to all the attacks which could be blocked. Adambro 15:14, 15 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

The attacks have come in a series of waves and I've grouped the usernames below by this:

15 August[edit]

14 August[edit]

9 August[edit]

28 July[edit]

27 July[edit]

Results[edit]

All other match, plus following users not listed above

Brian | (Talk) | New Zealand Portal 20:14, 15 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I am curious as to whether User:Krump is a sockpuppet account of User:Edbrown05, recent edits suggest it might be. The reason I seek this information is because Edbrown05 has had numerous warnings for his behavior towards over editors and I suspect the IP 24.125.54.105, which has been blocked for making personal attacks, is common to both accounts indicating that the accounts are very likely to be connected. Use of multiple accounts and this IP by Edbrown05 is disruptive because it potentialy avoids the scrutiny of edits by other users who don't immediately recognise they are connected. I think it is in the community's interest to clarify this issue. Adambro 15:39, 10 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

IP match between Krump and Edbrown05 and IP --Cspurrier 19:09, 10 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for performing this, Cspurrier. Thunderhead - (talk) 19:25, 10 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hash raid users[edit]

  • Check for possible IP/IP range match. Even if none is found, I strongly suggest that the IPs of all those users be blocked for a prolonged time since the autoblocks will expire within 24 hours. --+Deprifry+ 22:48, 19 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
It is WoW, but spread out across many ips, a large range block on 195.188.152.0/16 is about the only thing that will work for it. --Cspurrier 00:02, 20 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Didn't I do that? --Brian McNeil / talk 10:19, 20 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Requested check in IRC from BrianNZ, suspected match with EdBrown05 based on some edits. Markie996 concurred on running check.

Results were no match, not EdBrown05. --Brian McNeil / talk 10:19, 20 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

(Small note - concured with request in IRC --MarkTalk to me 10:24, 20 September 2007 (UTC))[reply]
