Wikinews:Username

From Wikinews, the free news source you can write!
Jump to navigation Jump to search
This is an official policy on English Wikinews. It has wide acceptance and is considered a standard for all users to follow. Changes to this page must reflect consensus. If in doubt, discuss first on the talk page.

Usernames on Wikinews are important: all of your edits are attributed to your username, and your user talk page is a central point for other Wikinewsies to contact you.

Do not create user names that are offensive or attempt to impersonate another user. Such accounts may be blocked, and you might be asked to change your username to something else. Also please don't create a username that has the at sign (@) or is your email address (there is another character similar to @ you can use). Do not create a username which contains a domain name.

Etiquette

Out of courtesy to other users, please do not create usernames that may be misleading or confusing. For example, a username of "Username" is confusing. If you are unsure, please ask here. Usernames that imply endorsement by or affiliation with the Wikimedia Foundation, Wikinews, or any other Wikimedia project are misleading, as is masquerading as celebrities or organisations you clearly are not.

Role accounts, which are shared by more than one person, are generally not allowed. If your username implies a role account, it is in breach of this policy. This may include a username which is the name of an organisation.

Changing username

If you wish to change your username, this must be done across all Wikimedia projects. Please see the global rename policy for details.
