Awake

Buddpaulasks, "Is everyone awake?" Some articles have been waiting to be published for a while now..... too long, and are getting stale --User:Buddpaul (User talk:Buddpaul|talk) 03:11, 3 September 2010

Time to publish

Hi. I've seen similar posts in the archive of watercooler to what Im going to ask... I'm new, made my first article and have tried to fix the reviewers comments but now it sits doing nothing with nobody reviewing it for about 36 hours now. The article is "Wikileaks distributes website content". Is it being abandoned due to disliking the topic/content, difficult to review or simply too much passing through(though other things have gone through). Was really looking forward to participating but this is slowly putting me off, hope can get some feedback soon. Thanks Terado (talk) 02:00, 9 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I've offered some comments on the article's talk page. --Pi zero (talk) 06:39, 9 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]
  • As Pi Zero points out on the talk page, you have not fixed per my review comments. Where I would correct xyr is the structure should be "inverted pyramid". The attempt at an article, particularly the lede, shows a poor grasp of English grammar, particularly a news style. The review failure points should be clear if you compare your effort to several published articles. --Brian McNeil / talk 09:58, 9 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]
  • Thank you for the expanded comments, Pi Zero, these certainly explain clearly. I may attempt another article as I expect this one is becoming stale. Brian, thanks also for the reviews and comments. I will take time to look through these and hopefully make another attempt later. I would like to say, however, that there is a large difference between "poor", reasonable, reasonably good, very good etc - I don't think it is reasonable, or in any way constructive to Wikinews, to be overly critical. I don't think the grammer in the article written can be described as "poor", but certainly I would agree it cannot be classed as "very good" and is not matching the expected news requirements and standards. My initial feeling of Wikinews is that there is a sticking point. News is being released far too slowly. There are plenty of contributions and the review process seems prompt, but there is no middle ground of helping significant contributions make that step up to publish standard. I would only like to make a loose suggestion of the idea of editors who take articles with a good contribution and transform them into a good enough state for review. I mainly say this as there are potentially a large number of people who are eager to submit content up to a certain standard but would not have the ability/time/willing to achieve the strict reviewing standards required. Thanks. Terado (talk) 13:54, 10 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I've fucked this up really spectacularly; somebody needs to clean up the mess.

I've left the article in a {{review}} state, where it should have been all along, but it was {{publish}}ed for almost two hours. Rockerball had attempted to publish but EPR didn't edit the article, and I found it that way a few hours later and "fixed" it but failed to notice that some of the edits had been made —I think— just after the passing publication action. So I published some unreviewed edits.

I'm going to walk away from the project for a few hours, before I do more damage. --Pi zero (talk) 17:59, 10 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Following up:
The instruction at the bottom of the passed template is outdated and misleading, so I submitted a change to it — but since I've got an abysmal track record on the whole situation, I didn't sight the edit. The page is fully protected, so it'll take an admin to sight, revert, or otherwise deal with it. --Pi zero (talk) 02:23, 11 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Please REVIEW!

Not sure what's going on with all the reviewers... or if the problem is that the sources are in Spanish (there's Google Translator, for those who didn't know), but please review my article Body undiscovered for a decade found in Pichilemu, Chile before it gets stale! Please! Diego Grez return fire 15:34, 14 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I reviewed it, and I found one problem so far. Nascar1996 16:04, 14 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]
It's my understanding that automatic translators are considered inadequate for peer review — and sadly, I've seen enough of those programs' output to agree with the objection. I don't come anywhere near practical "understanding" of Spanish myself, or I'd have reviewed this article some time ago. --Pi zero (talk) 16:25, 14 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Wouldn't it be better to add those to the spanish Wikinews? (if there is one?) Nascar1996 17:02, 14 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Probably, but I just dislike to contribute to any Spanish-language Wikimedia project. Diego Grez return fire 17:06, 14 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Oh, I forgot to say: Thanks Nascar1996! Diego Grez return fire 17:41, 14 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]
You're welcome. Nascar1996 17:47, 14 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

World News Quiz

I've just updated the World News Quiz but it seems that it is not appearing on the World News Quiz page. Here is my quiz. If anyone could fix the issue or tell me what's going on, it'd be much appreciated. Thanks, ~YTT • (talk) 06:37, 18 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Accreditation

What are the chances that I could receive accreditation under the criteria listed at the WN:Accreditation policy page, but using the "Or a contributor to another Wikimedia Foundation project who is in good standing there" and "or, a corpus of quality contributions elsewhere on Wikimedia Foundation projects" parts of the criteria? I have only written one article on Wikinews at the moment, so I would need to acquire it under that part of the criteria. I would want the accreditation mostly for photojournalism, rather than article writing, so that I could take and upload photos of news and events that could be used on Wikinews or elsewhere. I notice in reviewing recent requests that there don't seem to be many primarily photojournalism-based requests or requests based on contributions to other projects, so I thought I would come ask here how likely a request would be to succeed were I to make one.

Note: Most of my contributions are to English Wikipedia, followed by Commons, so those are the two projects on which I would base my request off of.

Thanks in advance, Ks0stm (TCG) 21:58, 16 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

  • To apply for accreditation, you need to have experience in writing news stories and be trusted by the Wikinews community (after all, they are the people who vote for or against you.) I would get some more experience on Wikinews before you apply for accreditation. Thanks, ~YTT T | C 00:09, 23 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Promotional "article" Shakti kumar

An admin might like to look at Shakti kumar which seems to be a promotional/ advertising attempt with zero news content. Sorry if this is the wrong forum! 220.101.28.25 (talk) 14:42, 29 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

This is an okay place for it. Thanks. Done --Pi zero (talk) 15:30, 29 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]
