New and confused

Hi, I'm totally new here. I wrote up my first article, and its awaiting review now. How long does that usually take? Since news is time sensitive I'd assume it would happen fast, but its not happening fast. Did I miss something or do something wrong? Was I supposed to notify someone? ɳorɑfʈ Talk! 08:12, 1 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Yes it should happen fast. Unfortunately there is a bit of a back log right now. Bawolff 10:50, 1 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I added new info to keep it fresh. I hope someone reviews it soon. ɳorɑfʈ Talk! 07:09, 2 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Pichilemu lawsuit

Hi, someone please take a look at this. I need help writing an article, with a neutral point of view. It is not going to get published anytime soon though, it will be some kind of "in depth" article, to be published near January or February. Thanks for your help! Briefs?

I've read a little bit here about briefs.....but I'm not sure I still understand what they are......so, what exactly is a brief?Bddpaux (talk) 21:01, 12 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I am not sure which bit you misunderstood, so to kick off the conversation, examples are at Category:Wikinews Shorts. I don't know if someone wrote a consensus definition: my working one is simply an article that satisfies all the requirements except the 3 paragraph minimum. --InfantGorilla (talk) 21:37, 12 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]
....well, that sorta helps. I think (from what little bit I could find here,) that technically, "briefs" are something a little bit different from Wikinews Shorts. .....I think a brief is a tiny nugget of info that others can use to help build up a story.Bddpaux (talk) 01:04, 14 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]
  • Don't touch briefs unless you've an excellent radio voice, and audio experience. They're a briefing - essentially a script summarising current news. Such can be generated by judicious editing of the ledes from a day or two's articles, recording such, then some slick audio editing. A close parallel would be a legal brief. --Brian McNeil / talk 02:34, 14 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]
That's good news, as I have both.Bddpaux (talk) 13:41, 15 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

New Message alerts from LQT on threads I've not commented on

Hi. Does anyone here know of or have the code to stop LQT's "New Messages" doodad telling me I've got new messages on threads I've not even commented on? It's becoming an annoyance and heading towards being a royal pain in the butt to keep marking threads I have no interest in as being "read". It's almost like email spam! Your help welcomed. Need copyedit

Please, someone copyedit this article... --Diego Grez return fire 03:32, 24 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I depublished this article earlier today, over concerns that the first two paragraphs were too close to one of the sources. The primary author has made some changes and wants to know how much is enough, and I consider myself neither experienced enough to give top-flight advice nor distanced enough to make such a call (and I'm time-limited). Could someone please render assistance?

I should warn that I used a depublishing technique that I hope might allow the article to return to its original position on the DPL when republished (but we'll see); a return to publication status would have to be brought about by hand (instructions on the hatnote), as EPR definitely wouldn't do it right. --Pi zero (talk) 21:01, 24 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]
