Tashkent State University of Law recognized in Times Higher Education interdisciplinary rankings

November 25, 2025

TASHKENT, UZBEKISTAN — Tashkent State University of Law (TSUL) has been recognized with "Reporter" status in the "Interdisciplinary Science Rankings 2026" announced by Times Higher Education (THE), marking the first time the Uzbekistan institution has appeared in this global academic ranking.

The British rating agency THE included 911 higher education institutions from 94 countries in this year's interdisciplinary science rankings. TSUL's inclusion represents the university's entry into international academic assessment systems that evaluate cross-disciplinary research and education.

The "Reporter" status indicates that TSUL has submitted complete data to THE in accordance with international standards and is now eligible to pursue full "Ranked" status in future years. Universities with Reporter status have demonstrated transparency in their data submission and capacity to meet THE's assessment criteria.

Times Higher Education is one of the most widely recognized university ranking organizations globally, evaluating institutions based on teaching, research output, citations, international outlook, and industry income. The Interdisciplinary Science Rankings specifically assess how universities integrate multiple academic disciplines in research and education.

TSUL specializes in legal education and is located in Tashkent, the capital of Uzbekistan, a Central Asian nation that gained independence from the Soviet Union in 1991. The university's appearance in the ranking follows Uzbekistan's national strategy to bring domestic universities into international rankings by 2030, an initiative announced by President Shavkat Mirziyoyev as part of higher education reforms.

The recognition comes as legal education globally increasingly intersects with other fields including technology, environmental science, and economics. Modern legal challenges such as artificial intelligence regulation, cybersecurity law, climate change legislation, and digital economy governance require knowledge spanning multiple disciplines.

For Uzbekistan's higher education sector, inclusion in international rankings can affect several areas: international research grant eligibility, diploma recognition in global labor markets, and opportunities for academic collaboration with foreign universities. Universities listed in major rankings typically receive more applications for international research projects and exchange programs.

TSUL now joins other Central Asian universities that have gained recognition in various THE rankings. The university will need to continue submitting data and meeting THE criteria to progress from Reporter status to receiving a numerical ranking position in future assessments.

The next publication of THE's Interdisciplinary Science Rankings is expected in 2027.
