Increase in Bomb Threats

I've noticed that bomb threats are increasing in today's society. When I was in high school, we would always have about 2-3 bomb threats every spring, supposedly by students who wanted to get out early. Though I don't know the reason for an airline bomb threat... maybe somebody wanted to get off the flight... it is rather strange why threats are increasing. Any more ideas as to why?

it could be the number 1 reason behind vandalism... boredom

Why two CF 18 were sent to escort the aeroplane? How it helps and whats the reason?

The two fight jets were sent in case the plane really did have a bomb on it, or in case it had been taken over. If the airliner had been taken over, and it failed to heed warnings to stay away from populated areas, they would have shot it down.
