Image: Temperatures (F) from various cities across the globe.

Source: I am the author, using Wikinews WeatherChecker.


How it was created

It was generated by the open source WeatherChecker application, available from the Wikinews WeatherChecker web site.

Starting with WeatherChecker version 1.9 (available via CVS on the WeatherChecker web site), anyone can create weather maps using WeatherChecker, without the use of any proprietary image creation tools.


Credits

The satellite image is courtesy of NASA. (This NASA site hosts very large satellite images, and sometimes refuses connections.)

Wikinews contributor Ilya Haykinson wrote the first versions of the WeatherChecker application, and administers the WeatherChecker site.

Wikinews contributor David Vasquez contributed additional code changes beginning with version 1.5 of the WeatherChecker application.
