Two people were found dead and two others were also found injured after a house explosion in Bel Air, Maryland, on Arthurs Woods Drive, Sunday morning, said Harford County Fire and EMS Association. The home was destroyed by an explosion, which also damaged neighboring homes, officials said. Search and rescue teams are still going through the damage as of mid morning Sunday. A neighbor said they smelled gas, to a utility company the night before the explosion. Before the explosion occurred, the fire department had been sent to the area for a reported gas leak. Once they arrived at the scene, firefighters found a field covered in debris and called for support, said Harford County Fire spokesperson Jeffrey Sexton, who also talked at a news conference about the explosion. There is no threat to the public from the explosion, fire and rescue asked the public to stay away from “the vast debris area that’s around the scene” and not to fly any drones in the area.

The explosion left at least twelve families without a home, authorities said.

Authorities on Monday said the victims are Jose Rodriguez-Alvarado, 35, a worker for the Baltimore Gas and Electric Company and Ray Corkran Jr., 73, the owner of the home. People living near the home said that they smelled gas on Saturday night, but the State Fire Marshall’s office said they had no record of anyone reporting that to either 911 or the Baltimore Gas and Electric Company.

A woman walking her dogs smelled gas at 8 p.m. Saturday night. A preliminary report of the NTSB’s findings would be released in about 30 days.
