I noticed the link for "lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender" points to w:gay-community on Wikipedia. Should this point to [[w:LGBT|LGBT] or even the LGBT category? - Tdempsey 5 July 2005 08:02 (UTC)

Yup. :) -- NGerda July 5, 2005 08:05 (UTC)

All well and good, but...[edit]

How do we stop these sort of portals getting taken over by POV. It stands to reason that there will be more LGBT people working on stuff specifically for this portal, which may (in the future) never show up anywhere else. How do we stop purposful or acedental POV creeping in?

Also where do we stop? A Larouche portal or a nazi portal? ~The bellman | Smile 14:17, 30 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Don't we have a description of what is news? a news portal should also be a qualifying news topic, neh? - Amgine/talk 14:20, 30 August 2005 (UTC)

This came up at Wikinews_talk:Category_Portals/Local, which could be the guidelines for 'developed' community portals when people are happy with it - so please chip in! Articles on portals can be watched and policed in the same way as every other article as they aren't hidden from recent changes, but those of us in that discussion thought that it would be fair to expect some level of leeway, for example an article about LGBT rights, for example, wouldn't necessarily be struck off for not seeking the anti-LGBT rights people's views because it is about a particular community. If the religious right, say, wanted to NPOV it and add it to their portal, they would be free to do so. As for the subjects, in my view any group wishing to write news on a particular subject should be able to form a portal: it might be as tiny as a village or school. Opinion groups like the nazis? I don't know. Are they different from a religious group like the Quakers? ClareWhite 16:23, 30 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]

"LGBT" name ?[edit]

I didn't know what that meant until I came here. Perhaps something like "Rainbow Room" could be used, instead ? StuRat 19:49, 30 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Rainbow is often associated with certain lgbt communities, but is not entirely representative of all (even most) LGBT issues. So I say, let it stay as it is now. --Dčabrilo 19:56, 30 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]
Well, the basic problem is that it's an abbrev that not everybody knows. Is there any other non-abbreviation that could be used ? StuRat 22:13, 30 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]
Hmm... It's a rather widely used abbreviation. I am sure that all people interested in LGBT issues will be aware of what it is, but... I can't think of anything better right now. --Dčabrilo 22:14, 30 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]
Just being clear to those interested in those issues isn't really enough, that means everyone who isn't interested will have to pick on the category to find out what it means. How about if we just "unabbreviate" it ? I know it's on the long side, but at least it would be clear to everyone that way. StuRat 23:06, 30 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Why is there an entire portal devoted to Gay/Lesbian news? And people think sports shouldn't have it's own portal. I just don't get it. Forget it. I'll just leave it alone. --wjmoore 03:44, 6 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Who says sports shouldn't have their own portal? DragonFire1024 03:46, 6 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Everything has a portal. Crap, Spam mail has a portal. This is much more of a topic then bulk email ever will be. Bawolff 22:06, 14 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

May be useful in future articles on this subject (same-sex marriages) — Image:World homosexuality laws.png

Nice new image[edit]

Just want to publicly anounce that the new image on the portal page rocks. --weirdjrc (talk) 16:24, 14 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Homophobia on Wikipedia[edit]

There's a massive amount of homophobia going on at Talk:The Hardy Boys - the article has been purged of all sources that discuss the issue b/c homophobe-editors say the issue is "fringe". Any help would be appreciated! Ricardiana (talk) 17:06, 4 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

This isn't the right place to ask for help. Wikipedia has a well developed dispute resolution system. They would be more able to help you. Bawolff 18:35, 4 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]
