On June 3, 2025, at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) defeated the Punjab Kings by six runs to win their first-ever Indian Premier League (IPL) title. This marked the end of an 18-year wait for the franchise, which had previously lost three finals.
RCB, captained by Faf du Plessis, were sent in to bat after Punjab Kings won the toss. The Bengaluru side posted a total of 190 for 9 in 20 overs. Virat Kohli scored 43 runs off 35 balls, while Rajat Patidar contributed 39. The Punjab bowlers, led by Arshdeep Singh and Rahul Chahar, managed to slow the run rate during the middle overs, with both bowlers taking two wickets each.
In response, Punjab Kings finished on 184 for 7, falling short by six runs. Despite a late surge by Shashank Singh, who scored an unbeaten 61 off 30 balls, the team could not close the gap. RCB's bowling attack was led by Krunal Pandya, who claimed 2 wickets for 17 runs and was named Player of the Match.
The victory was a significant milestone for RCB, with long-time player Virat Kohli finally lifting the IPL trophy after 267 matches in the tournament. The team’s win sparked celebrations among fans, particularly in Bengaluru, where a public victory parade is scheduled for June 5.
RCB's win made them the seventh franchise to win the IPL. The 2025 season featured ten teams and concluded with the final attended by over 100,000 spectators.
