21 July[edit]

@Acagastya: Is this alright to start review or should I see more things? --Notbrev (talk) 09:10, 21 July 2021 (UTC)

Just gazing over the article for literally a second, @Notbrev:, I can see some issues. Pleas add relevant wikilinks using {{w}} template. Please answer all five 5ws questions, especially precisely on which day this happened. Without that, one can't see how new it is to be newsworthy. Please add relevant categories. None of the sources are recent -- and if we are writing about a recent event, well, those things have to be cited too.

@Acagastya: I am a little rusty with wikilinks, it happned not within a day, but as a sponsor for this series. This is also primary reporting which is why I need to be more sure before sending for review. Weirdly enough during the mention of sponsors this site was not mentioned, but it was in the painted grass sponsors and painted on the walls. Could you make a wikilink to this sections September item [1] thanks. --Notbrev (talk) 09:33, 21 July 2021 (UTC)
@Acagastya: Could you change the title to 'gambling' instead of 'betting'? Also please take another look at the article, thanks. :) --Notbrev (talk) 13:03, 21 July 2021 (UTC)
@Notbrev: the problem with the article and the headline is: headline speaks about betting site, but the lede (first para) talks about the series. The headline happened back in May, and is not newsworthy, and I think for that, your article should be refocused to speak about something that happened in the past three days.

@Acagastya: but the series is currently being played, or is it the sponsor? The sponsor was only revealed during the start of match. --Notbrev (talk) 10:24, 22 July 2021 (UTC)

25 July[edit]

@Green Giant: This is the last date possible to publish this, could you please clarify what is speculated here? Betting/Gambling is clearly illegal in Bangladesh, yet a gambling site sponsoring a cricket series is unnatural. I couldn't contact the betting site as they have no contact info on their site. --Notbrev (talk) 09:44, 25 July 2021 (UTC)

@Notbrev: Has the sponsorship been questioned by any media sources (local or international)? The currently listed sources are the 10 Feb 2020 High Court ruling, two legal texts from July 2019 and Nov 2020, and the Daily Star article from Sept 2019. These are fine as additional sources but you need to provide at least two current, separate, verifiable news sources that report the subject of the article. Is there a report which was published in the last few days covering the issue of sponsorship? If not, then the whole article is speculation and cannot be published by Wikinews. --Green Giant (talk) 10:00, 25 July 2021 (UTC)
That was the main reason I am taking it as original reporting, since non of the local press apparently noticed this. --Notbrev (talk) 10:21, 25 July 2021 (UTC)
@Notbrev: Hmm… Our definition of original reporting usually involves a firsthand eyewitness report of a news event or an interview about such an event. I’d recommend you follow our policy on original reporting. Have you contacted anyone relevant about the issue e.g. the Cricket Board or the betting website or even perhaps a Member of Parliament? You’ll need to provide detailed notes for review here. I’d suggest looking at recent interviews for a guide on how to structure the article. There is a less strict deadline for such a report i.e. it does not have to follow the two or three day rule for synthesis articles. --Green Giant (talk) 10:48, 25 July 2021 (UTC)
@Green Giant: There is very little to zero hope of anyone being able to contact these people other than established reporters with connection to press club. Should I close the article then? --Notbrev (talk) 11:55, 25 July 2021 (UTC)
@Notbrev: That’s unfortunate. I cannot see anyway of publishing the article without either sources or first hand reporting / interviewing. If you wish, you can add the {{Speedy}} template to the article as follows:
{{speedy|Author request}}
An administrator will then delete the article. Alternatively you could wait a few days in case someone wants to try their hand at the article. --Green Giant (talk) 17:26, 25 July 2021 (UTC)
@Green Giant: Is there a talk page? I would request someone to talk to the local press club if they could contact them. --Notbrev (talk) 09:35, 26 July 2021 (UTC)
@Notbrev: I’d suggest the WN:Request an interview page, although it is ordinarily used by potential subjects to request we interview them. Currently we have a number of people who have written excellent interviews. --Green Giant (talk) 18:58, 26 July 2021 (UTC)

Betting article?(from my talk page)[edit]

Are you still working on this??--Bddpaux (talk) 16:46, 22 July 2021 (UTC)

@Bddpaux: see the talk page, if this can't get through today it will be outdated. --Notbrev (talk) 09:42, 25 July 2021 (UTC)

Well. Okie dokie. Did you make any of the suggested changes? The verbiage seems awfully Cricket-heavy. (Sorry, I am not a big follower of the sport.) Have you had other articles published here?--Bddpaux (talk) 00:22, 26 July 2021 (UTC)

@Bddpaux: I added a few wikilinks so that it's easily understandable. Apparently original reporting has more loose publishing timeline, so this may stay a bit longer. But since this still needs an interview of primary sources it will probably go. On the second question, not really I previously only published meta news on bn(this is en) version of wikinews, this is the first original article. --Notbrev (talk) 09:35, 26 July 2021 (UTC)
