"to fight fatigue"?[edit]
Is it a stimulant (like caffeine), a tonic (like cod liver oil), or sustenance (unlikely, like a good meal)?
"to fight fatigue" sounds like a very one-sided description, implying it's a magic fix-all. Bill3 16:44, 29 December 2005 (UTC)
- I would assume it's a stimulant, since that's what cocaine is. It doesn't imply that it's a "magic fix-all", it implies that it helps fight fatigue. Which is what the article claims that indigenous people who chew it believe. Fatigue does not constitute "all". --MateoP 19:29, 29 December 2005 (UTC)
- Yes, but a good sleep will fight fatigue, and so will a big steak dinner, but I don't see how chewing a leaf can be similar to either. I guess (like you guess) that it's a stimulant, probably similar to coffee. If we are right, then the article should say this ("Coca is a stimulant, not unlike caffeine"), instead of this "fights fatigue" phrase that has left both of us guessing.
