Talk:CAFTA faces tough vote in U.S. House
I will step out on a limb here and predict this deal will go through. If it does, against the wishes of the vast majority of Americans (68%)[[1]]; it will simply confirm that the USA is no longer a democracy; our government has been hijacked by multinational sweatshop and war profiteers; which is what I have come to believe.
If I am wrong,I will drop off wikinews for 1 week as a punishment to myself for being so "over the top" in my opinions.Paulrevere2005 23:15, 27 July 2005 (UTC)

- Just for the record, strictly speaking, the United States was not set up as a "democracy" per se, it is a republic of democratically-elected representatives. There is a difference. The U.S. government was designed so that the elected representatives could - and should- be free to make unpopular decisions from time-to-time (either on the left or the right) to do what they individually thought was correct, whether it was popular or not. Then, once every two or six years, if they made enough wrong decidions, they would be booted in an election and replaced by someone else. :-) -- Davodd | Talk 02:26, 28 July 2005 (UTC)
