I am a Canadian journalist and writer and this story comes directly from an interview that I did with grid expert Donald McCormick, a senior contractor for Hydro One based in Ontario, Canada. Although this story only uses one significant source, Mr. McCormick's qualifications, as cited in the article, more than qualify him to make this assessment of the continental power grid. He is available for comment upon request. Since I am the interviewer and writer of this story, I hold all associated or related copyrights under international law.

Please do not delete this article for copyright infrigement related reasons, or due to reasons associated with the strength of the source. His qualifications are well documented.

Disinformation Today Copyright Notice[edit]

As per the request of admin, I have posted permission directly on my blog to post this item as well as anything else I publish on my blog, now or in the future.

Single source adequate due to nature of article; breaking comments from a certified expert in the industry with two decades experience.[edit]

Admin Says:

This article has been nominated for editorial cleanup, that is, an editor considers it not to be publishable in its current form. The following reason has been cited: "still needs more changes - could be shorter, needs headings for the sources etc. see tlk page for more".

The article is as short as possible considering that specific quotes and information learned from the original interview must be made public in order for this story to be considered "news". Article has been edited several times changing, streaming sentences and removing as many words as possible.

As for the article having only one source, that's because Mr. McCormick the first person brave enough to step forward and describe what he sees happening to our power generating infrastructure. This is breaking news if you consider what's being said, the qualifications of the person making the remarks, and people simply have a right to know when people like Mr. McCormick have comments.

Power Grid to be discussed by Canadian Premiers at Frederickton, NB meeting on August 15, 2007[edit]

This particular article is even more relevant due to the very recent special interest being given by the Prime Minister and the Canadian Premiers into the subject. The website ViveLaCanada.com posted an article on this very matter on August 5, 2007.

Article is being critiqued by various admins, all with seemingly different ideas about how to clean up this article.[edit]

This article has been published to the main page and removed three separate times now, each time because a new editor has new ideas. Fair enough, but with all due respect this article has been significantly edited, cleaned, and grammer has been changed to conform to site standards. The original version was more editorial in its style, while this final draft is streamlined, less wordy, journalism is completely neutral. Mr. McCormick's bias was based on his extensive qualifications, decades of experience, and expertise in many spectrums of the industry.

Please refer to ealier talk notes regarding copyright issues, ownership of Disinformation Today, and to earlier histories of the article. It's content can't be shortened anymore because the expert's direct quotes must remain, and anything else is neutral and required to form the article. If any admin wants to make any changes, please feel free. Otherwise, please give more specific instructions for changes to this particular article and I will be pleased to act further.

It's important to review all the talk page notes before publishing, unpublishing, publishing, unpublishing... I have no problem conforming, but I would appreciate more input from admin in this matter.

Changes to article on my Disinformation Today Blog reflect changes in the final draft[edit]

Posting this article here has been a learning experience that I am thankful. All my future articles to be posted here will conform to this site's standards. To avoid confusion, I decided to re-post my blog entry to match the final draft of this article posted on Wikinews. On my blog only, I will post a new follow up entry tomorrow with additional commentary about the evolution of this piece from an editorial to a compelling breaking news article.

Admin:

Please note, this article is not "lifted" from my blog, but rather my blog conforms to the final draft of this article as per stated above.

We really prefer the work and notes to be here, it greatly facilitates checking by other Wikinewsies. --Brian McNeil / talk 13:33, 13 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Concerns[edit]

  1. NPOV: This is a very opinionated piece. I know it is an interview, but it seems at lot of statements from this person McCormick are taken as fact. Has there been any fact checking?
  2. Interview: if this were a Wikinews interview, notes would be required, such as a list of questions and answers, or a video/audio recording of the interview. Is posting this on a blog first a way to circumvent such requirements? I hope not, especially when said blog calls itself Disinformation. How can we know that this interview took place at all?
  3. Copyright: JoeBurd may have said that it ok to post his stories on Wikinews, but is he aware of the implications of CC-BY-2.5.
