One of the problems I have is the credibility of this story. Mainly because the Christian Children's Fund is a major organization, and would accept practically any legit donation. Although 17 grand is not a lot per se, I still don't think they would reject it based on a role playing game. DragonFire1024 (Talk to the Dragon) 19:05, 1 November 2008 (UTC)

From an email I received from CCF: (I don't know if wikinews accepts primary sources)
"There appears to be a misunderstanding which I would like to correct. When Gen Con contacted CCF about its auction, we were pleased to accept donations. However, we couldn’t lend our name for publication because our policies have specific criteria for endorsements. We were unaware that this had caused any problem or concern for Gen Con until we began receiving emails. This decision was in no way intended to be a reflection on Mr. Gygax, gaming enthusiasts or the game Dungeon and Dragons. We have the utmost respect for the gaming community and were touched by the generosity expressed through your auction. We were disappointed that we were not the recipients of the donation but we were pleased that another worthy organization benefited." 08:26, 2 November 2008 (UTC)
The Fisher fund commented, but only said that their records are confidential. I cannot verify the above e-mail, because I have not received one from the CCF. DragonFire1024 (Talk to the Dragon) 11:50, 6 November 2008 (UTC)

Blog source[edit]

One of the sources is effectively a blog, this is strongly advised against. --Brian McNeil / talk 19:09, 1 November 2008 (UTC)

I sent an e-mail off to the Fund to see if they can confirm or deny the claims. If they confirm them, I asked for a statement in regards as to why. DragonFire1024 (Talk to the Dragon) 19:16, 1 November 2008 (UTC)
I also found the GenCon website, and sent a mail off to them as well. DragonFire1024 (Talk to the Dragon) 19:24, 1 November 2008 (UTC)
While I am at it, I also mailed the Fisher foundation too. DragonFire1024 (Talk to the Dragon) 19:37, 1 November 2008 (UTC)

Looks like this news took place in August. I've done some formatting and copyediting in case anything usable emerges, but absent a statement from one organization or the other this may be too old/unusable to publish. Durova (talk) 07:11, 2 November 2008 (UTC)
