ask for an event date[edit]

I have read the Wikinews:Newsworthiness, It's really an old event and I'm too late to write about it. should it be a normal article instead of news, so we can write it in another place ? what should i do now ? —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Iskandar salama (talkcontribs) 13:52, 22 September 2016

@Iskandar salama: I can think of two routes you could take, each with its own sort of challenge.
  • Wikipedia wouldn't have a problem with the event being in the past, but has its own Wikipedia:Notability policy that would have to be satisfied. I'm fairly sure an article about just the 2015 celebration would be too specific for them. I'm not sure if they would take an article about the celebration over its multiple years; it might still be too narrow for a whole Wikipedia article (I believe the term is "undue weight"). There might be an existing article that it could be fit into as a sub-item. Perhaps a friendly expert at Wikipedia could advise you (I know there are some very friendly folks over there, although alas there are also some folks there who are less friendly — with a big project like Wikipedia, you can't help having both kinds of people).
  • Wikinews has no problem with the size of the story, but we do need something fresh. It might be possible to do an article about the 2016 celebration (supposing it happens, of course), and that article could then contain information about previous years' celebrations as background (further down in the inverted pyramid). If you wanted to try that route, it would probably be a good idea to get some experience writing Wikinews synthesis beforehand, so that when Christmas comes around you can write an article about it without getting tripped up by other aspects of Wikinews writing.
