Editorial?
[edit]This is completely meta, and shouldn't be published. It'd be good to spread to things like the Wikipedia Signpost, WikiZine, Village Pumps, Meta-Wiki, etc., but this should not be published here. It's too much "tooting our own horn". Ral315 (talk) 04:20, 6 September 2007 (UTC)
- I completely agree. I'm very proud of us having reached 10K articles, but I don't think we should have a real article like this. If necessary add a section to the main page to showcase our accomplishments and to celebrate but let's make it clear this is not part of the "news". -- IlyaHaykinson 04:22, 6 September 2007 (UTC)
- I'll make it local only, so its published but not main page, or any of those sorts of places. TheFearow 04:40, 6 September 2007 (UTC)
- How often do we "toot our own horn?" Not a lot if ever. So I think this would be a great story. I disagree that it should be local only or that it should not be on the main page...why not? DragonFire1024 (Talk to the Dragon) 04:57, 6 September 2007 (UTC)
- Well, my point is that we should not have it part of the normal news flow... and instead have it in some special area, and in the Wikinews namespace, perhaps. Sort of like a "letter from the editor" section in a newspaper: they don't try to make it seem like it's a normal news article. -- IlyaHaykinson 05:00, 6 September 2007 (UTC)
- This is meant to be a NPOV news article on us. No harm in that. TheFearow 05:53, 6 September 2007 (UTC)

There was a discussion on IRC, I think we should be able to publish something like this. There is no formal policy against it, we publish news from Wikipedia so why not this. Several people on IRC thought it shouldn't be published. --Steven Fruitsmaak (Reply) 08:48, 6 September 2007 (UTC)
You may want less bread and circuses on the front page if there is a mention of this in the Wikipedia Signpost to prevent hundreds of new pokeman news stories. -- Jeandré, 2007-09-06t13:41z
- Oh noes! not the Pokemon hordes. :) If I can deal with one of them in my house, then I'm sure Wikinews can deal with all of them between us. --Brian McNeil / talk 13:47, 6 September 2007 (UTC)
- For the record I think this is tooting our own horn a bit (which we do more than other projects in general imo). Something like this should be a press release or a letter from the editor as Ilya suggested. Bawolff ☺☻ 23:40, 7 September 2007 (UTC)
10,000th?
[edit]There are 10,004 pages in the main namespace. 13 of these are still in development, so we don't have our 10,000th published article. --Brian McNeil / talk 08:04, 6 September 2007 (UTC)
- Then the count should take that into consideraton. DragonFire1024 (Talk to the Dragon) 08:12, 6 September 2007 (UTC)
