Many thanks to CGorman who wrote the first drafts of this article using Wikinews:Story preparation.

Readers and editors alike may be interested to know that we beat BBC News Online, Reuters and AP to the news. Only CNN, as far as I know, was quicker.

Interestingly, the first media correspondent in the world to recognize the election of a new Pope had occured was Christian Franklin on BBC Radio 5 Live. He happened to be broadcasting live from St Peters Square when the smoke emerged and correctly inferred at once that the smoke had to indicate the election of a new Pope - if the ballot had been inconclusive, the papers would have been kept until the 7pm vote was over and both sets of papers burnt together. Someone removed the space before the archival template — It's causing a big ugly grey box to appear. 68.39.174.238 09:40, 11 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Done I moved things around to where they are supposed to be. However, I am not sure to which grey box you are referring?. If it is the archival warning box at the bottom, it is going to be there. --Jcart1534 11:56, 11 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
