An article needs to find consensus - no objections - in the following categories in order to be accepted for publication. If the review period elapses without comments, the article may be published. See also Wikinews:Article stages#Review for information on what constitutes a valid objection.

Please comment on any of the following issues:

  • Neutrality: All factual claims need to be attributed or sourced. On-topic information which is relevant to the article should be added. Off-topic information should NOT be added to "balance out" an article.
  • Accuracy: All facts should be verifiable. Factual claims which are attributed to a person or group, but considered false by another person or group can remain in the article as long as the controversy is accurately represented.
  • Legality: Does the article violate any laws of the state of Florida in the United States? Specifically, does it violate other people's copyright, in text or images? Please make sure that no images have been directly copied from a non-free source without permission, and that any brief text quoted from a non-free source is attributed accurately. Use Google News and Google Search and pick individual phrases from the article to verify this.
  • Writing: Is it well-written and understandable?
  • Policies: Does the article comply with Wikinews:Content guide and Wikinews:Style guide?
  • Comprehensiveness: Relevant information on the topic should be included, while keeping in mind timeliness. Given that an almost infinite amount can be said about any topic, objections in this category carry less weight than those in other categories.

editing...[edit]

The news here is that "Longhorn will be released in 2006", not that there is a conference, or that Bill Gates leads Microsoft.

Try this: Microsoft's next operating system will be released in 2006, according to Bill Gates. Microsoft' founder and current Chairman and Chief Software Architect announced the release date for "Longhorn" at the Microsoft IT Forum 2004 Copenhagen conference on $date [or "this week"].

As it stands, the lede is long and buries the news: At [the?] Microsoft IT Forum 2004 Copenhagen technological conference Bill Gates, founder and current Chairman and Chief Software Architect of Microsoft, [delete "has"] said the future operating system of Microsoft ["Microsoft's newest operating system"] called Longhorn will be released in 2006.

This sentence is confusing: Features planned for Longhorn include a new 3D graphic user interface, a more sophisticated replacement for MS-DOS [are they replacing MS-DOS with something else? relative to what is the replacement "more sophisticated"?], and execute for processor NX, or No Execute, security features that prevents some malicious code from being run [do you mean to say "and support for the No Execute feature which prevents supported CPUs from running some forms of malicious code"? Also, you've included the new GUI and MS-DOS replacement as security features].

[Replace "This" with "Longhorn" since our last noun was something to do with the NX bit or malicious code] is expected to be the first Microsoft release ["first new operating system from Microsoft"? which is still wrong since we have Windows 2003... "first new desktop operating system from Microsoft"?] since Windows XP in October of 2001.

comprehensiveness[edit]

The point about longhorn is, and always has been, support for Trusted Computing, as I understand it. This is a major concern for the free software community anyhow; completely missing this out while talking about dropping winfs is really missing the point. Unless THAT has been dropped.

In general, it is better to include what people say about Gates' view on Longhorn. Tomos 22:05, 27 Dec 2004 (UTC)
