Talk:Medals awarded at final day of rowing at London Paralympics

[edit]Watched all these races live with the Australian brigrade. While there, Chris Nunn told me that Erik Horrie had been hospitalised only 48 hours before and they did a good job fixing him up to get him back on the course. He came from behind to win silver; the Australians I was with, which including one of the world anti-doping people who left after the races to get urine samples, were surprised as everyone thought from the seats that he had actually one silver.
The Americans just pipped the Australians out of a bronze in the race Australia had the double pairs there. There was some surprise at the Americans standing for the medal ceremonies because of how good their prostetic legs were considering how much of their legs were gone. There were comments about the Ukrainian winning gold about how big she was and a discussion about arm strength and the relative merits of body type for each classification. The mixed four boat has different disabilities and mobility, so brute force in the arms is not required because a few in the boat can use their legs: They physically look different than the competitors who have leg and trunk problems. The leg and trunk athletes have massive, massive arms. --LauraHale (talk) 14:46, 2 September 2012 (UTC)
Sebastian Coe, Prince Edward, the Duchess of Cambridge Kate Middleton and Australia's Minister for Sport Kate Lundy. This can be verified by pictures. Amy Winter talked to Middleton for about 15 minutes in the Paralympic Family Lounge.
A Pom finished fourth in the competition where the Australian finished second. It was the first time he had ever lost a race in a major international competition. Ooops. Even the Australians near me were shocked by this as the announcer really, really hyped this before the game. The Poms in attendance were also shocked as it was one of the medals they had counted on winning given his track record. --LauraHale (talk) 15:07, 2 September 2012 (UTC)
