Balance[edit]

I'm concerned about the way the mainstream media presents mental illness. There's a temptation to jump to "he was mentally ill" whenever a white guy does something that we'd otherwise call terrorism. That's why I think it's important to mention that Fletcher has publicly said he has autism and once spent time in a mental health facility. People with neurological issues and mental illness are more likely to be the victim of a crime than the perpetrator, and we never hear about it. Consider this disclosure of a goal and bias. I am asking the reviewer and fellow writers to pay extra attention so that this article is properly neutral when published. Darkfrog24 (talk) 12:48, 29 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]

There are a lot of implications for this. Does hospitalizing people for anger work? Does catching mental problems in middle school work? Would Jeremy Christian have turned out more like Fletcher if any of his mental issues had been caught and treated? Is Fletcher's family able to afford therapy and medication and Christian's isn't? It's not our place to answer these questions and given our relationship to sources and editorializing, not even our place to explicitly ask them in the article itself, but it is our place to give the reader facts relevant to those questions. Spelling of Destinee Ma[ng]um's surname[edit]

The New York Post switches from "Magnum" to "Mangum." The Guardian uses "Mangum." Given that "magnum" is a word that people are used to, I think it's more likely to be the typo. Darkfrog24 (talk) 18:00, 29 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]
