Very easy, Done! I used the most recent freely-licensed picture of him on Commons. Dsuke1998AEOS (talk) 21:56, 8 May 2025 (UTC)Reply
thank you 🙂 that image later got deleted. now replaced. if you find a better one with compatible licence, it would be good. the image does not have to be very recent. Gryllida (talk) 12:15, 9 May 2025 (UTC)Reply

Issues with article

[edit]

I note the following issues with this article as it is being archived:

The following statements are verifiable using the listed sources, but as written, are unattributed analysis, which violates WN:NPOV:

  • "His openness and support to the late Pope Francis, especially for his commitment to social justice issues sparked some interest from his peers."
  • "Pope Leo XIV became the second Pope from the Americas..."
  • "...and the first Pope from North America, specifically..."

The following statements are unsourced, which violates WN:Source

  • "...the first Pope from Peru..." He is not from Peru. He was born in Chicago. He is the first to hold Peruvian citizenship.
  • "...and the first pope to hold dual citizenship." He holds dual citizenship, but none of the listed sources specifically state he is the first to hold dual citizenship and I can find no source online to support that he is the first to hold dual citizenship.
  • "On February 6, 2025, the late Pope Francis promoted him to the Order of Bishops, which granted him the title of the Suburbicarian Church of Albano." This is unsupported but verifiable[1]

@Heavy Water, Bddpaux, RockerballAustralia, Gryllida: I have left the following changes unsighted and am requesting a second opinion on both:

  • I have issued a correction.
  • The Reuters article title has either changed by Reuters or we used an incorrect title. There is a syndicated article from Reuters with the same title[2]. I'm not sure if changing the title in the Sources section in this way is frowned upon or not.

Given our low reviewer activity recently, I'll self-sight the above in a week or so if I don't hear back from anyone.Michael.C.Wright (Talk/Reviewer) 16:07, 28 September 2025 (UTC)Reply

I will check it in about 17 hours as i am on the road thanks Gryllida 20:41, 28 September 2025 (UTC)Reply
I have sighted the changes.Michael.C.Wright (Talk/Reviewer) 23:49, 13 November 2025 (UTC)Reply

Why do you find the category 'overly broad?'
The article uses the term in the following sentence: "Pope Leo XIV became the second Pope from the Americas, and the first Pope from North America, specifically."
It also mentions he holds dual citizenship in Peru and the US.Michael.C.Wright (Talk/Reviewer) 17:01, 21 February 2026 (UTC)Reply
Because it's the only article in the category. I don't dispute your reasoning. HKLionel TALK 02:08, 25 February 2026 (UTC)Reply
It's an interesting issue; the user who created the category last year is no longer a contributor. So we can't ask if this was meant to be a category for other categories, or for articles and categories both.
I don't really have strong opinions either way on this one. Does anyone else want to weigh in?
I added North and South America to the article. We should also add a topic from Template:Topics. I'm not sure which of those to use here.
I'll flag the conversation, maybe that will get some attention too.Michael.C.Wright (Talk/Reviewer) 03:09, 25 February 2026 (UTC)Reply
Done Given the pending closure of the project, it seems unlikely this will be discussed further. If discussion does resume, feel free to revert my changes if the community chooses to do so. Michael.C.Wright (Talk/Reviewer) 07:28, 2 April 2026 (UTC)Reply
