Before and after Drag Race[edit]

I find it so interesting now to re-read this interview that was held before RuPaul's Drag Race. Ru says here, in 2007, that he doesn't know of any "young performance artists working in drag today" and "there aren’t any up and coming drag artists". He certainly wouldn't have said that two years later! I wonder whether the issues discussed in this interview contributed to his decision to create Drag Race.
