Question, does this source here also by Ynet, but in English say roughly the same thing? If it is the case it shouldn't it be used because it has the advantage of being easier to fact check. [1] The Mind's Eye (talk) 18:46, 26 July 2008 (UTC)Reply

There's some similarity, but there's obvious differences as well. The Hebrew article focuses more on the arrests of Fatah members, starting with 120 when I first saw it and moving to 160 by the time I finished writing the page up -- and now it's listing 200 arrested Palesitnians. The English version doesn't even mention the arrests. English version also gives out a slightly different version on the events so I would personally avoid it being that it was published early in the morning -- 07:53am -- compared with the Hebrew page which was updated sometime within the last hour or so (i.e. between 21:00-22:00). 77.127.253.51 19:08, 26 July 2008 (UTC)Reply

Title name

[edit]

Well of course I agree 200 is a very large number but consider that it may change to 220. Perhaps it will decrease to 150. I think adding numbers is to volatile. The Mind's Eye (talk) 20:05, 26 July 2008 (UTC)Reply

We can correct it if it changes - the large news outlets do it all the time. The fact that the majority are claimed to be Fatah affiliated is a non issue played up by political interests. The only reason the story is notable is volume and we should stick to that. 77.127.253.51 22:51, 26 July 2008 (UTC)Reply
What about this article Palestinian teenager killed in Israeli airstrike 8 killed, Palestinians arrested in West Bank raids made the news and only ten captured, Israeli attacks in Gaza kill 17. Just a few examples of small numbers of people and yet they are considered notable. Plus if we keep making changes it will lead to many redirects and double redirects. Finally even if we go back to 200, the article title needs to be changed to and five others because the article says that. The Mind's Eye (talk) 23:07, 26 July 2008 (UTC)Reply
17 is actually a high number for casualties in Israel or Palestinian controlled areas *and 200 is a large number for detainees). That is why the number was specifically noted in the article title in contrast with the others when it is downplayed. The story changed as it was being written from 120 to 200. Things may change tomorrow, but the news today were "200 Palestinians arrested by Palestinian group". The title you've suggested make the story completely uninteresting/unimportant/regular, non "news" event among the repetitive world of minor clashes between Hamas and Fatah. The only reason this story is "front-page news" rather than some boring side note in page 21 is the volume. 77.127.253.51 00:48, 27 July 2008 (UTC)Reply
Touche, but the article should be changed six year old girl and five others. The Mind's Eye (talk) 01:17, 27 July 2008 (UTC)Reply
Most of the reports say 5 Hamas militants and the girl died as a result of the car bombing close to the beach, and another as a passer by at the cafe bombing. I went through quite a dilemma on that one and decided the most repeated and probably most correct version. This is supported by the fairly new Reuters article - "Three Hamas members and the girl were killed immediately. Two more Hamas activists died of injuries Saturday"[2] - anyways, if you really want to take down the number of casualties from the explosion by one, I don't mind since I don't see it as the main story. Please feel free to change the article title to the one you are accepting (with the number 200 in it, I hope). 77.127.253.51 04:14, 27 July 2008 (UTC)Reply
